Abstract

A cement mixer cleaning arrangement/device comprises a housing 1 that fits over a mixer drum, such as those used on portable cement mixers. The arrangement /device, houses a water delivery system 2, 11, 12, mounted at 9. A water supply, incorporating a tap 6, is connected to the device to control the flow of water. When the water is turned on, jets of water are evenly distributed over the inside surface of the drum, dislodging the waste left after use. The excess water and waste flow out through the waste hole 3 at the bottom of the housing. A flexible pipe or integrated moulding 10 may be supplied as may a handle 8 to facilitate use. The water delivery system 2 could also be in the form of a perforated moulding on housing 1m sealed by lid 11 and connected to inline tap 6 by flexible pipe 10.

Description

A device for cleaning the inside of portable cement mixer drums A device to be placed over the drum of a portable cement mixer to clean it after use. The Device is designed to clean portable, rotating drum cement mixers and has applications for any portable drum mixer device regardless of size.
Cement mixers are time consuming and awkward to clean due to the inaccessible nature of the drum. The device is designed to overcome these problems.
The device consists of a housing, solid or framework which fits over the mixer drum and carries a water delivery system connected to a hose pipe. When turned on the delivery system causes jets of water to be evenly distributed over the inside of the drum dislodging the waste left after use. With a solid housing the excess water and waste flow out through the waste hole at the bottom. With a framework housing there is no need for a waste hole.
Producing a housing with a bearing surface in contact with the rim would enable it to be used while the drum is rotating.
Brushes around the lip would help clean the rim of the drum.
The water can be delivered using a rotary or static, single or multi headed system or a single reservoir with perforations.
Both the housing and drum can remain stationary. Alternatively the housing can remain stationary with the drum rotating.
The design should be such that the mixer cleaner is also clean at the end of use and ready to be put away.
The invention will now be described solely by way of example and with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 shows the view of the underside of the device.
Figure 2 shows the view of the topside of the device.
Figure 3 shows the cross section of the device with rotating water jet system.
Figure 4 shows the cross section of the device with a reservoir water jet system.
Figure 5 shows the plan view of the framework housing.
The Housing (figures 1 and 2) The solid housing (1) fits over the opening of the drum and delivers jets of water. These are distributed evenly over the inside of the drum to dislodge the waste which has adhered over its inner surface.
The device is designed to be used before any mix has gone off and dried within the drum.
As different cement mixers have different sized drums with different diameter openings the device will have to be available in a variety of sizes or be adjustable to suit the drum.
The housing carries a water delivery system (2) to produce the water jets. A drainage hole (3) allows water and muck to flow out of the drum. The housing has a shaped edge, lip (4), to allow it to slot over the drum and remain in place. In order to supply the water delivery system a hose must be connected to the in-line tap (6) which connects by a short pipe or hose (10) either directly or through a hole in the housing (5) to the water delivery system. Flow of water into the water delivery system can be regulated by the in-line tap (6). The in-line tap would be connected to a hose (7) on site. The housing could have a handle (8) for ease of use and a moulding (9) for a water delivery system to be slotted securely into.
Water Delivery System (figures 3 and 4) This must deliver the water to clean the drum. If rotary it could be powered by the water flow.
The water delivery system could be a sprinkler system (2) mounted on the cover or a reservoir (12) with a tight fitting seal (11) perforated by a system of small holes integrated into the moulding of the housing and connected to the pipe (10).
The design must be such that it delivers the water over a sufficient area and with enough force to clean the drum. It must be suitable for use with both standard domestic water pressure and water delivered at high pressure.
Different sized drums may require different types of water delivery systems.
