Abstract

A hydraulic system is separated into two parts, by way of a piston 5 inside a cylinder 4, creating a primary 1 and a secondary circuit 2. The primary circuit 1 controls the secondary circuit 2, but if one or more parts of the secondary circuit 2 fails or leaks (See figure 4) then the piston 5 will isolate the secondary circuit 2 so that the primary circuit 1 will continue to work normally. The cylinder 4 may have an inspection window so that the position of the piston 5 can be easily inspected.

Description

Hydraulic Safety Stop This invention relates to stopping hydraulic leaks.
Hydraulic systems are used in vehicles and machines to provide control and power by the use of pressurised fluid.
If there is a break in one part of the hydraulic system, this would result in loss of pressure, the pressurised hydraulic fluid would be forced out of the breach and the loss of pressure would prevent the system from working and there would be a big loss of fluid.
To overcome this, the present invention proposes a hydraulic system incorporating a piston within a cylinder, that will work as normal, but if there is a break in the hydraulic system, the rest of the hydraulic system will still function.
The present invention separates the hydraulic system into two parts, primary and secondary, of which there could be any number primary and secondary parts.
The primary controls the secondary, but if one or more parts of the secondary fail the remaining parts will * * continue to work normally.
* *.*** * * The pressure of the hydraulic system ensures the leak is sealed securely.
With the present invention, in normal use a piston moves back and forth within a cylinder to allow movement of the * hydraulic fluid, the piston being used to separate the primary side of the hydraulic fluid from the secondary.
if a break appears in the secondary part of the hydraulic system the pressure will push the piston to the end of the cylinder and therefore prevent any further loss of hydraulic fluid and loss of function of the remaining hydraulic system.
The present invention uses a piston inside a cylinder, incorporated in the hydraulic system between the hydraulic pump and operating parts of the hydraulic system.
The use of these cylinders with the pistons will keep the hydraulic system working even if one or more of the hydraulic parts have failed.
The present invention will provide protection from accidental or malicious damage to the hydraulic system.
The cylinder could be fitted with an inspection window so the position of the piston could be seen, to see if there may be a problem with the hydraulic system, this would pinpoint which part of the hydraulic system has a leak.
An example of the invention will now be described by referring to the accompanying drawings. S. S
:.:: Figure 1 shows an example of a hydraulic system, where * the pump I pushes the hydraulic fluid into the cylinder 2, which pushed the ram. upwards.
Figure 2 shows the present invention when fitted to a *:::: hydraulic system, where the piston 5 is contained within the cylinder 4.
Figure 3 shows the present invention when the hydraulic system is operated, the force of the pump I pushes the hydraulic fluid to the cylinder 2 via the piston 5.
Figure 4 shows the present invention when a break has happened in the hydraulic system, the pressure of the system pushes the piston 5 to the end of the cylinder 4, preventing any further loss of pressure and fluid. * * * * *
