Abstract

A motor vehicle comprises a driver assistance system (4) having a device (2) such as a camera for monitoring a 5 vehicle environment. The driver assistance system (4) outputs a warning message to a driver if the system determines that the vehicle is passing (overtaking) another vehicle on the wrong side (undertaking), for instance audibly, visually on the rear view mirror, or haptically by shaking the seat, pedal or steering wheel. The system can also recognise lanes and may include map data.

Description

MOTOR VECHICLE HAVING A DRIVER ASSISTANCE SYSTEM
DESCRIPTIOt4
TECHNiCAL AREA The invention relates to a motor vehicle having a driver assistance system having a device for monitoring a vehicle environment and a method for controling the driver assistance system.
PRIOR ART
Motor vehicles are equipped with a device for monitoring a vehicle environment preferably in the form of one or more image detection devices, in order to be able to automatically detect traffic signs on the road edge and/or roadway markings, inter alia. The corresponding image signals are processed in an image processing unit, in order to output information with respect to permissible highest speeds or a minimum safe interval to a traffic participant traveling ahead to the driver of the motor vehicle in particular. Furthermore, motor vehicles are equipped with driver assistance systems, in order to output warning signals in the event of *oIS * unintentional driving over a lateral roadway marking, as can occur because of excessive *0*** * * tiredness of the driver.

DE$CRIPTION OF THE INVENTION Proceeding from the prior art, the invention is based on the object of specifying a motor vehicle and a corresponding method, which offers increased traffic safety using simple and cost-effective means.
A motor vehicle comprises a driver assistance system having a device for monitoring a vehicle environment. The driver assistance system outputs a warning message to a driver if a passing on the right procedure is recognized on the part of the device.
in a method for activating a driver assistance system of a motor vehicle, which is equipped with a device for monitoring a vehicle environment, a warning message is output to a driver if a passing on the right procedure is recognized on the part of the device.
Advantageous embodiments of the invention are the subject matter of the dependent claims.
is The motor vehicle is equipped with a device, which can be implemented arbitrarily by a person skilled in the art, for monitoring a vehicle environment, which preferably comprises an image detection device, for example, a chip camera, in order to be able to detect other objects located in the environment of the motor vehicle by means of an associated image processing unit, which can also be integrated in a control unit of the motor vehicle. Of course, inter a/ia, permissible highest speeds, passing prohibitions, or other warning notices can be detected using the device for monitoring a vehicle environment and corresponding optical andlor acoustic warning messages can be output to the driver via the driver assistance * system.
* ***** * S * 25 Furthermore, the motor vehicle is equipped with a driver assistance system, in order to output a warning message if it automatically recognizes that another traffic participant is being ** S...
* passed on the right in a parallel lane. For example, an acoustic warning in the form of a : * speech message or an alarm tone, an optical signal of a warning light on the dashboard or a *** text on a display, and/or a haptic warning by vibration of a vehicle seat, a pedal, and/or a * ** ..* * 30 steering wheel can be output. As soon as the motor vehicle in the left lane is recognized and the driver assistance system has established the passing on the right procedure by continuous image processing, the driver assistance system is activated in such a manner that the warning message is output. It is also very comfortable for the driver if the warning message is implemented as a display in a rear view mirror. In this case, this can be both an exterior and also an interior rearview mirror, since both are frequently looked at, in order to observe the environment of the motor vehicle.
The advantage of such a design of the motor vehicle is that a passing on the right procedure is recognized automatically and a warning message is also output automatically. The decision then remains to the driver of the motor vehicle whether or not he wishes to observe this warning message and brake, for example. Ignoring the warning message is permissible in particular in the event of slow travel in a column on a multilane freeway or when traveling up an acceleration lane, as long as an excessive differential speed does not prevail. The acceptance of the driver assistance system is increased by the possibility of ignoring the warning message, since the driver is not patronized.
Of course, the driver assistance system is correspondingly activatable inversely in countries iS having left-hand travel. If necessary, the driver assistance system can also be switched over, preferably automatically by means of received GPS signal, using which traveling into a country having left-hand travel can be established. The output of the warning messages can also be turned off completely if this is desired by the driver.
In order to recognize the presence of multiple parallel lanes in the same direction, on which other motor vehicles travel in the same travel direction, the device expediently automatically recognizes lanes. A lane recognition is known from lane assistance systems, for example.
The lane recognition can be performed by analyzing image data in order to detect solid and 0000I0 * interrupted roadway markings or in order to establish by means of a navigation system having *:.: 25 assigned map data that the motor vehicle is located on a multilane freeway. It can thus be * established that the motor vehicle is located on the right lane, which is not authorized for 00*00 * passing. * S. *0
In one embodiment, the driver assistance system comprises a communication system for *0*05 * * 30 exchanging information with other motor vehicles. The motor vehicles are equipped with transceiver devices for this purpose, inter alia, to exchange information about travel direction, location, and speed. If it is automatically established by a motor vehicle that a passing on the right procedure is occurring, a corresponding message can be output in the above-described way.
It is obvious that the above-mentioned features and the features to be explained hereafter are usable not only in the respective specified combination, but rather also in other combinations.
The scope of the invention is only defined by the claims.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE. DRAWINGS
The invention is explained in greater detail hereafter on the basis of an exemplary embodiment with reference to the appended drawing. The single figure of the drawing shows a schematic top view of two motor vehicles arranged offset to one another.
pETAlLED DESCRIPTION OF THE EXEMPLARY EMBODIMLNI
The two motor vehicles 1 travel in the travel direction indicated by the arrow F in right-hand traffic on adjacent lanes of a road. One motor vehicle I is equipped with a device 2 for monitoring a vehicle environment, which comprises at least one optical chip camera and an image processing system. The signals of the cameras are supplied via connections 3 or data bus architectures to a driver assistance system 4 or a control unit and analyzed therein. The presence of the further vehicle 1, which is located on the left in front on the lane in the same * direction, can be detected using the devices 2. * *
* 000 SO * If it is established by the driver assistance system 4 by analyzing image data that the front 00.: 25 motor vehicle I is being passed on the right, an optical and/or acoustic and/or haptic warning * message to the driver 5 of the motor vehicle I is performed using the driver assistance *..S SO * system 4 and it is left to the driver 5 whether or not he observes the warning message. * *. * S S
** * In the event of slow traffic in a column or when driving onto a freeway on an acceleration S.....
lane, automatic braking is undesirable and the driver 5 can drive the motor vehicle 1 in the way he desires, without being substantially impaired by the driver assistance system 4.
