Abstract

A mobile bag for heating stones used in massage therapies. The bag consists of a heating element 1 with a dual power facility; either an indoor mains AC power plug or a car cigarette lighter plug can power the bag. The bag contains cartridges 4 which are used for containing and insulating the stones. Cartridges 4 comprise an aluminium base, a foam isolation lid 7 that secures the stones in the cartridge and a hard plastic frame. A heating element 1 is adapted to apply heat through the aluminium base to the stones. The bag may have a thermometer for monitoring the temperature of the stones and this may have a display 6.

Description

I
Mobile Massage Stone Warmer This invention relates to a massage stone warmer that is used during hot stone massage therapies.
Hot stone therapy is performed by a qualified therapist using basalt stones/rocks. When hot stone therapists perform mobile therapies or home-visits to clients, they currently have to travel with a large stone heater. The therapist will spend extra time in having to set up the stone heater by filling it with water and then waiting for the water and stones to heat to the desired temperature.
To overcome this, the present invention proposes a stone warmer bag that is in the form of a bag, therefore, smaller and easier to transport and which also heats the massage stones quicker. The stone warmer that is being proposed directly heats the stones from a heating element that has a dual-power solution of either an indoor mains AC power plug or a car cigarette lighter plug, allowing the stones to be heated indoors or in transit. The basalt massage stones are contained in cartridges that are constructed of an aluminium board base, PP board (polypropylene board) frame and isolation foam lid.
The stone warmer bag will decrease the heating time required for the basalt stones, thus decreasing the waiting time during each treatment.
The stone warmer bag will eliminate the need for water during the treatment, allowing the treatment to become more accessible.
The stone warmer bag will have an inbuilt thermometer and temperature display to show the current temperature of the stones.
The stone warmer bag may contain cartridges' to better separate different stone sizes and also to secure the stones using different thicknesses of isolation foam.
The stone warmer bag may be made from a lightweight material such as fabric or moulded plastic to allow it to be light enough to carry.
An example of the invention will now be described by referring to the accompanying drawings: Figure 1 shows a section through the stone warmer bag.
Figure 2 shows the exterior of the stone warmer bag.
Figure 3 shows the opening action of the stone warmer bag.
Figure 4 shows an open view of the stone warmer bag.
Figure 5 shows an open view of the stone cartridge.
Figure 6 shows a section through the stone warmer bag and cartridges.
Figure 7 shows a variation on the stone warmer bag.
Figure 8 shows a section through the alternative stone warmer bag.
In Figure 1, a vertical section through the stone warmer bag shows the heating element 1, which when the unit is connected to a power supply, conducts heat to the cartridges 4. The heating element 1 is controlled by a power component 12 which constrains the heating element from exceeding the optimum temperature. The cartridges 4 are used to store the basalt massage stones 10 (see Figure 6) whilst retaining the heat transmitted from the heating element 1. A pocket 3 is used for storing the AC power plug and cables as well as the car cigarette lighter plug. Handles 2 allow for ease of transport by the user.
Figure 2 shows how the heating element 1 is fitted into the stone warmer in the manufacturing stage. A thermometer is fitted into the stone warmer that displays the temperature of the interior of the bag and stones. The thermometer display 6 allows the user to monitor the temperature of the stones when preparing for the therapy session.
Figure 3 shows the opening action of the stone warmer bag.
Figure 4 shows the mobile stone warmer with one of the two compartments open. Each compartment holds two cartridges 4 used to store and retain the heat transferred to the basalt stones 10.
Figure 5 shows a stones cartridge which is constructed of a hard plastic frame (polypropylene board) 9, 13 which is resistant to high temperatures, an aluminium board 8 which conducts the heat from heating element 1 into the stones 10 and a thick isolation foam 7 which retains the heat inside the cartridge. Different thicknesses of the isolation foam 7 will be attached to the polypropylene board 13, depending on which size stones are placed into the relevant cartridge. As well as serving as an insulator, the isolation foam 7 will also secure the stones from excessive movement within the cartridge.
Figure 6 shows a section through one compartment illustrating the massage stones 10 being secured by the isolation foam 7 whilst being heated by the heating element 8.
Figure 7 shows a variation on the stone warmer bag which allows the cartridges 4 to be removed from the top of the unit without the unit being laid flat. A removable strap 11 is used to carry the unit. The power component 12 allows either an AC power plug adaptor or car cigarette lighter plug to be connected to the stone warmer.
Figure 8 shows a section through the variation of the mobile stone warmer which has one heating element I to heat the four cartridges 4.
