Abstract

A food container that is heated by a heating element Q built into the walls of the container that is powered by a rechargeable battery O located in the base C and controlled by a thermostat M. The walls of the container may have an insulation cavity N and the base C of the food container containing the rechargeable battery O, a thermostat M and adjustment knob F, may be detachably removed from the body B via clips D. The rechargeable battery O may be charged via a base unit I containing a mains power supply J. The food container maintains pre-cooked food at a constant temperature away from the mains power supply.

Description

1. THE RECHARGEABLE FOOD HOLDER- Description
The invention relates to an insulated food container that is heated by a thermostatically controlled element built into the walls of the container that maintains pre-cooked food at a constant temperature. The heater element is powered by a rechargeable battery housed in a removable base unit attached to the container by 3 clips ( marked D in the drawings) Insulated food containers are in common use but do not contain a heater element powered by a rechargeable battery to maintain constant temperatures. The battery is charged via a base docking unit ( marked I in the drawings) containing a mains power supply similar to those used for cordless Kettles.
The advantages of the Rechargeable Food Holder are that, a) It maintains pre-
cooked food at a constant temperature thereby reducing the risk of bacterial growth in accordance with stipulations of the Environmental health Executive, and b) It is mobile and can be used anywhere in the kitchen, outside catering events, banquets etc. without having to be returned immediately to the base unit.
The pre-cooked food is placed in the container and the ideal temperature for serving is set using the heat adjustment knob ( F). Once this is set the food is kept at the required temperature ( normally between 65 and 90 degrees) ready for serving. At any stage the container can be removed from the base unit ( I) and does not have to be returned until the battery requires recharging.
An embodiment of the invention is shown in the accompanying drawings in which: Fig I shows a side view of the exterior of the container showing the position of the side mounted handles ( E), the clips ( D) which attach the power pack ( C) to the body ( B) and the base docking unit ( 1) .
Fig 2 shows the front view of the exterior of the container showing the positions of the heat adjustment knob ( F), which also acts as the on/off switch, and the light ( G) that shows when the power is on and also flashes when the battery is recharging. This figure also shows the positioning of the front clip ( D) in the centre. Fig 3 shows the back view of the exterior of the container showing the positioning of the 2 clips ( D) and the hinge for the lid ( L) and the shape of the side handles ( E).

Figs 5,6, 7 & 8 show the side, front and top views of the interior of the container showing the positioning of the thermostat/control unit ( M), the "female" portion of the waterproof power connector ( P) and the rechargeable battery (O). They also show the positioning of the insulation cavity ( N) and the heating element ( Q).
Preferably the container will be made of stainless steel but it may be made of plastics, glass or any combination of these materials.
( KEY Hinged lid - folds back 180 degrees for easy cleaning.

E Lifting handles on both sides.
F Heat adjustment knob for thermostat - adjustable between 65-90 degrees. Also acts as on/of'f switch.
G Power on / recharging indicator light. Lights when switched on / flashes when recharging.
H 'Male' portion of waterproof power connector I Base unit for recharging.
J Power supply cable.
K Weighted base for stability.
L Hinge. M Thermostat/control unit.
N Insulation cavity.
O Rechargeable Battery.
P 'Female" portion of waterproof power connector - mates with (H) on base unit.
Q Heating element R Wall between Insulation Cavity ( N) and Heating; Element ( Q).
S Wall between Heating Element ( Q) and interior.

Claims (5)

f CLAIMS
1. An insulated container containing heating elements in its walls that are thermostatically controlled and powered by a rechargeable battery contained in the base of the container.
2. An insulated container as claimed in Claim I where the thermostatically
controlled heater element maintains the contents at a constant temperature.
3. An insulated container as claimed in Claim I or Claim 2 where the battery is recharged from a separate base unit containing a mains power supply.
4. An insulated container as claimed in any preceding claim where the heating controls and rechargeable battery are contained in a detachable unit.
5. An insulated container as claimed in any preceding claim that is made from metal, plastics material, glass or from a combination of these materials.
