Abstract

The present invention relates to a hair freshener composition comprising essential/fragrant oils at 0.5 to 4% by weight, preferably 1% weight. The composition may further comprise a solvent, preferably isopropyl myristate, cyclomethicone or alcohols e.g. ethanol. The composition may contain three essential oils selected from the group of red apple, green tea, cedarwood, honey, frangipani, peach, amber, lily, cucumber, juniper, violet and lime oils.

Description

A HAIR FRESHENER
The present invention relates to a hair freshener, which performs more advantageously than prior art hair fresheners or at least provides a useful alternative.
The inventor has noticed that there is a need in the market for a hair freshener product that can be used for women who are unable to frequently wash their hair. This problem applies, in particular, to black women who often have hairstyles that cannot be washed. For example, some popular hairstyles utilise hair extensions that are plaited, glued, or otherwise attached to a person's human hair. Such a hairstyle cannot be successfully washed in water without damage.
In addition, the inventor has noticed that there is an absence in the market for a hair freshener that uses natural ingredients such as essential oils.
Existing hair freshener sprays only appear to be suitable for wig wearers such as the Lace Wig Freshener SprayTM, or contain chemicals that may be abrasive and may damage natural hair such as the iso Plus Hair FreshenerTM.
It would be advantageous if a hair freshener could be used for human & synthetic hair; bonded, weave, wigs, hairpieces and units. It would be further advantageous if the hair freshener eliminated or masked odours associated with infrequent shampooing, perspiration, cigarette smoke, and food.
Furthermore, it would be advantageous if the hair freshener is a formula that is safe for regular use but with sufficient strength to provide a long lasting effect.
A yet further advantage would be a hair freshener which provides a fragrant smell that does not smell like a perfume, but smells fresh and clean, in order not to clash with a woman's perfume.
Accordingly, to meet the needs of the market and to provide the advantages mentioned above, or to at least provide an alternative to existing products, the inventor has developed a hair freshener composition comprising between 0.5% and 4% by weight essential or fragrant oils.
The composition may include a solvent at between 99.5% and 96% by weight of the hair freshener composition. The solvent is preferably an alcohol such as denatured ethyl alcohol. Such a solvent advantageously inhibits mould growth. Alternatively the solvent may be a mixture of solvents: for example a mix of alcohol and water. In alternative embodiments, the solvents may be iso Propyl Myristate or cyclomethicone.
The inventor has further discovered that a composition of approximately I % of essential/fragrant oils by weight is preferred for the hair freshener composition to meet the requirements of effectiveness and usability.
After experimentation, several combinations of essential/fragrant oils have proved to be particularly effective.
The combinations include three essential/fragrant oils in one of the following combinations: (Red Apple fragrant oil, Green Tea fragrant oil, Cedarwood essential oil), (Honey fragrant oil, Frangipani fragrant oil, Peach fragrant oil), (Amber fragrant oil, Lilly fragrant oil, Cucumber essential oil), (Amber fragrant oil, Lilly fragrant oil, Juniper essential oil), (Red Apple fragrant oil, Cedarwood essential oil, Violet fragrant oil), and (Lime essential oil, Cucumber essential oil, Cedarwood essential oil).
In particular, the combinations above where the first oil of the combination is at a concentration of 50% by weight of the essential/fragrant oils portion of the composition and the other two oils are each at a concentration of 25% by weight have proved to be effective.
Thus, according to one aspect of the invention there is provided a hair freshener defined according to claims 1 to 11.
A potential advantage of embodiments of the invention is a hair freshener that provides a light spray which eliminate odours but which does not provide texture (otherwise change the appearance of hair), greasiness or stiffness to the hair.
A potential advantage of embodiments of the invention is a hair freshener that does not disturb the hairstyle -texture or appearance -and does not dry the hair, dull its colour, or cause it to frizz.
The preferred chemical composition of the fragrant oils are given below: Red Apple fragrant oil: Amyl Cinnamic Aldehyde 0.1-1 % by weight Amyl Salicylate-N 0.1-1 % by weight Citronellol 0.1-1 % by weight Galaxolide 50 dep 5-25 % by weight (L) Hexyl cinnamic aldehyde 5-25 % by weight Hexyl salicylate 5-25 % by weight Musk xylol 0.1-1 % by weight Para tertiary butyl cyclo hexyl acetate 0.1-1 % by weight Tetralide 0.1-1 % by weight Green Tea fragrant oil: Aquanal (quest) helional 0.1-1 % by weight Beta ionone 1-5 % by weight (L) Citronellol 1-5 % by weight Orange terpenes 0.1-1 % by weight Tetralide (tonalid) 1-5% by weight Honey fragrant oil: (L) Cinnamic Alcohol 5-25 % by weight (L) Citronellol 5-25 % by weight (L) Geraniol BJ 5-25 % by weight Melarome 1-5 % by weight Musk ketone 0.1-1 % by weight Phenyl ethyl alcohol 5-25 % by weight Frangipani fragrant oil: (L) 2-(4-tert-butylbenzyl propionaldehydee 1-5 % by weight (L) Amyl Cinnamic Aldehyde 5-25 % by weight Amyl Salicylate-N 0.1-1 (L) Citronellol 1-5 % by weight % by weight (L) Geraniol bj 5-25 % by weight Methyl beta naphthyl ketone 0.1-1 % by weight Musk xylol 0.1-1 % by weight Phenyl ethyl alcohol 5-25 % by weight Terpineol 1-5 % by weight Peach fragrant oil: Allyl phenoxyacetate 1-5 % by weight (L) Geraniol BJ 1-5 % by weight Phenyl ethyl alcohol 5-25 % by weight Amber fragrant oil: Alcohol ClO 0.1-1 % by weight Benzyl benzoate 5-25 % by weight Citronellol 0.1-1 % by weight (L) Coumarin 1-5 % by weight (L) Eugenol pure 1-5 % by weight (L) Hexyl cinnamic aldehyde 5-25 % by weight Orange terpenes 0.1-1 % by weight Phenyl ethyl alcohol 5-25 % by weight Thymol crystals 0.1-1 % by weight Lilly fragrant oil: (L) 2-(4-tert-butylbenzyl propionaldehyde 1-5 % by weight Aquanal (quest) helional 0.1-1 % by weight Citronellol 0.1-1 % by weight (L) Hexyl cinnamic aldehyde 1-5 % by weight Orange terpenes 0.1-1 % by weight Phenyl ethyl alcohol 1-5 % by weight Violet fragrant oil: Amyl Salicylate-N 1-5% by weight Benzyl Alcohol 5-25 % by weight (L) Citronellol 5-25 % by weight (L) Liliestralis 33 1-5 % by weight Musk xylol 0.1-1 % by weight Phenyl ethyl alcohol 1-5 % by weight Terpineol 1-5 % by weight Tetralide (tonalid) 1-5% by weight Cucumber fragrant oil: (L) Hexyl cinnamic aldehyde 5-25 % by weight (L) Liliestralis 22 1-5 % by weight Phenyl ethyl alcohol 25-50 % by weight Terpineol 5-25 % by weight The preferred process for obtaining each of the essential oils mentioned are defined below: Cedarwood essential oil: The volatile oil obtained by steam distillation of sawdust and stumps of Cupressus funebris EndI.
