Abstract

An apparatus enabling a portable hand-held electronic device 4 to be more easily held comprises a securement part 2 and at least one handle 3. The securement part is shaped and dimensioned such that it extends securely around at least an edge of the portable electronic device 4. The securement part 2 has means to engage and mate with at least one handle 3. The component parts of the handle apparatus 1 are held together by cooperatively formed and releasable connection means 5. The securement part 2 and/or the at least one handle may have apertures 6 which align with respective features of the portable electronic device 4 in order to access them. Provides a detachable handle arrangement for use in playing games on a portable electronic device such as a mobile phone, a smart phone or a PDA.

Description

A HANDLE APPARATUS
FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to a handle apparatus for use with portable hand-held electronic devices.
BACKGROUND TO THE INVENTION
There are numerous hand-held electronic devices (e.g. mobile phones, in.c1ding smart phones electronic book n.aders personal digital assistants (FDA) etc) available today which pennit a variety of functions and tasks to he carried out with ease. Electronic devices may be used for communication, entertainment, business or other work purposes, and have the obvious advantages of portability and compactness It is often desirable to use portablc hand-held electronic dc ices foi ganiing purposes, and in particular to grasp the portable electronic device at a particular orientation in order to facilitate a gaming experience. It is uncommon to construct electronic devices with integral hand grips, as this defeats their advantages of small size and aesthetic design quality.
It s ould therefore be advantageous to ha e a stnictui e or apparatus which allows a user to hold a portable electronic device in a variety of orientations, particularly those suitable for gaming purposes In addition it would be desirable to ha e an apparatus which allows a user to be able to access all of the functions of the portable electronic des ice s hUe it is being held It n ould also be ads antageous to pros ide such an apparatu'. vhich sould allow a user io remove a portable electronic device flom the apparatus s lien the portable electronic des ice is not being used for gaming purposes
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
I
The invention provides a handle apparatus for use with a portable electronic device (e.g. mobile phones, including smart' phones, electronic book readers, personal digital assistants (PI)A) etc) the handle apparatus comprising a securcmcnt part Vlncii in use extends securely around at least an edgc of the portable electronic device, and at least one handle part adapted to be held by a user, the handle part being releasably connected to the seeurernent part.
In an atemau e embodiment, the sccurenient part substantialh encloses a iee edge and a rear face of the portable electionic de\ice when in use Further handle parts may then be secureh attached to the securemenL part Although not limiting the scope of the in enuon the handle appat atus preferably comprises a pair of handle parts.
The handic apparatus is also piefcrably configured to allow a user to access afl of the functions ot the electronic de ice hen in ise The securemnt part and or it least one handle may have apertures which align with respective features, e.g. a camera, of the electronic device when the apparatus is attached around the portable electronic device.
The invention as described above solves the problems of providing an apparatus for allowing a usu to hold a portable clcetrornc desae in a s ariety of orientations, particularly those suitable for gaining purposes In particular, the apparatus allows a user to be able to access all of the flanctions of the portable electronic device while it is being held.
DRAWINGS
Figure 1 shows the componert parts of a handle apparatus according to the present invention; Figure 2 shows the handle apparatus of Figure 1 in engagement with a portable electronic device; and Figure 3 is a detailed view showing an aperture on a handle part of the handle apparatus in respective alignment with a camera of a portable eiectivnic device.
Referring now to the drawings, Figure 1 show s the component parts of the handle apparatus 1, as described in more detail below.
The handle apparatus I comprises a securement part 2 and a pair of handles 3. The sceurement part 2 is constructed from a 1emi-rigid or flexible material for example a 0 polytetrafluoroethylene (P1 FE) polymei which is shaped and dimensioned to extend securely around at least an edga of the portable electronic device 4 The pair of handles 3 may also be shaped and dimensioned in a variety of ergonomic configurations, and may be constructed from any suitable materials such as durable rubber or mouldcd plastics.
The securement part 2 has means to engage and mate with each handle 3. The component part'. of the handle apparatus I are held together b) cooperatively formed and releasable connection means It iill be appreciated by a person skilled in the art that the cooperatively formed releasable connection means 5 may be of the form which permit a clip fit or snap lock fitting or ma simply he projections on the handle parts 3 Which engage with associated recesses on the securement part 2. In practice, any suitable connection means can be used In use, the handles 3 mate and cooperatively engage the securement part 2 via the releasable connection means 5, as illustrated in Figure 2 where a pair of handles 3 are releasably connected to the securcmcnt part 2, When not in use, the handles 3 may be relcasably detached from the securcment part 2 by disengaging th.e releasable connection means 5, so that the handlcs 3 ina be stored separate from the portable electronic device 4 It will bt appreciated by a pemon skilled in the art that in use an alternative securement part (not shown) may substantially enclose a sidc edge and a rear face of a portable electronic device, similar to a phone case or the like.
One of the handles 3 may have apertures 6 which align with respective features of the portable electronic device 4 in order to access them, as illustrated in Figure 3. It is entsaged that an's number of the aperturcs 6 present may addthona1l have cos ci means (not shown) to protect the featuies of the portahk e]eetroruc dc's ice 4 s;hen not in use. -.5-
