Description

Australia Patents Act 1990 COMPLETE SPECIFICATION INNOVATION PATENT TABLET COMPUTER MOBILITY AND PRODUCTIVITY DEVICE The invention is described in the following statement: 1. TABLET COMPUTER MOBILITY AND PRODUCTIVITY DEVICE The invention relates to improvements in devices for the mobile handling and operation of tablet computers. The Tablet Computer has seen wide adoption as it creates the missing link between the mobile use of the Laptop Computer and the Smartphone for private and 5 business users who wish to access data via the Internet, while away from their workplace or home. The Laptop is not designed to be operated while walking around and the Smartphone while small enough to hold comfortably in the hand, is too small for operating most business applications. The Tablet Computer bridges this gap as it has been designed to operate while walking around and does have a 10 big enough screen to operate business applications. A problem still remains, however as the tablet is too large to grasp securely in one hand like a smartphone, so is at risk of being dropped while trying to type or use many applications. Current versions of tablet computer cases only provide a cover or protection for the tablet computer without providing the means of securely holding the tablet to 15 effectively operate applications while standing or walking. Other previous devices provide a frame with straps or handles on each side, but do not facilitate a ergonomically formed, comfortable, stable and steady control of the tablet with one hand while operating applications while standing or walking. This problem has been overcome by the present invention, which incorporates a 20 clear protective case, with a rear facing integrated rotating hub that provides users with both portrait or landscape operating format and a universal access point for the connection of single ring shaped grips, which allow the user to securely and comfortably hold the computer in one hand while operating applications with the other hand when standing or walking around for business or leisure. 25 In one form of the invention the case that encloses the back, sides and long narrow tabs along each side of the screen of the tablet computer, may be a clear acrylic and configured to suit the apertures provided along the sides of the tablet computer, for access to ports, docking plugs and control switches that fit a larger sized tablet, with the rotating central hub and one or more finger ring grips a standardised design 30 that fits all forms of the invention. While in another form of the of the invention the case that encloses the back, sides and narrow tabs along each side of the screen of the tablet computer, may be a solid rubberized plastic and configured to suit the apertures provided along the sides for access to ports, docking plugs and control switches that fit a smaller sized 35 tablet computer, with the rotating central hub and one or more finger ring grips remaining the standardised design that fits all forms of the invention. To assist with understanding the invention, reference will now be made to the accompanying drawings which show one example of the invention.
2 In the drawings: FIG. 1 shows one example of such a tablet computer mobility and productivity device according to this invention; Referring to FIG. 1 it can be seen that the tablet computer mobility and productivity device according to this invention comprises of a clear rectangular case 1 5 comprised in this form of the invention of an acrylic polymer. With various port openings 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 respectively, for the connection of peripheral devices and for access control switches and speakers variously located dependant on the specific computer tablet that is being utilised. Referring to FIG 1, FIG 2 and FIG 3 the centrally located rotating hub 9 is affixed 10 within a purpose designed slotted track 10 running at intervals around the circumference of the aperture 11 formed in the centre of the case 1, the rotating hub 9 inserted through the underside of the case 1 during assembly with the effect of locking the rotating hub 9 in place. The rotating hub 9 which in this example of the invention has a curved upper 15 surface 12, has circular indentations 13 at symmetrical intervals around its circumference, which in situ within the slotted track 10 of the case 1 aperture, align with two matching detents 14 located at 180 degrees to each other on the upper planar surface of a raised slotted track 10, which at these two points is separated from the continuous perimeter of the said raised slotted track 10 into two flexible 20 tongues 15 by two narrow parallel cutout sections 16 in the surface of the case 1, running back towards the outer edge of the case for a short distance, to give the effect of allowing these tongues 15 to flex and allow the detents 14 to rise up and down into the circular indentations 13. The rotating hub 9 has an inverted transverse channel 17 running from the 25 perimeter extending past the center point of the rotating hub 9, with a semi circular cutout suppressible locking tab 18 at the entry point. This inverted transverse channel 17 having the function of a universal connection port for the insertion of circular shaped ring grips 19 of various configurations and sizes that have a common slotted foot 20 that slides horizontally along the inverted transverse 30 channel 17 until it passes the suppressible locking tab 18, which springs back to lock the ring grip 19 in place. The ring grip 19 locked into the rotating hub 9, provides the means for the user of the tablet computer mobility and productivity device to securely hold the tablet computer in one hand, while walking and operating applications with the other hand without fear of dropping the tablet computer.

Claims (4)

1. A tablet computer mobility and productivity device comprising a case with rotating grip at it's center that provides a secure comfortable hold of the tablet computer placed within, with either a left or right hand of any size, so as the 5 tablet computer can be effectively operated with the non grip hand, while standing or walking, without risk of dropping and damaging.
2. The tablet computer mobility and productivity device of claim 1 wherein the central rotating hub is universal so as it can integrate with a purpose configured 10 case that will fit any existing or future tablet computer, while still retaining the universality of its central connection port for the attachment of the provided various sized ring grips, desktop stands and further accessories developed in the future.
3. The tablet computer mobility and productivity device of claim 1 wherein the 15 central rotating hub includes circular indentations at symmetrical intervals around its circumference, which in situ within the slotted track of the case aperture, align with 2 matching detents located on the upper planar surface of the slotted track, to act as a ratcheting mechanism to incrementally control the rotation of the rotating hub when in use. 20
4. The tablet computer mobility and productivity device of claim 1 wherein the circular shaped ring grips of various configurations and sizes have a common slotted foot that slide horizontally along the inverted transverse channel of the rotating hub until they pass a semi circular cutout suppressible locking tab, which springs back to lock the ring grip securely in place.
