Abstract

A document holder 10 comprises a rigid planar board 11 having a front face 12 and a rear face 13 with an integral shelf or ledge 15 at one end of the front face and an integral substantially planar tongue 22 extending away from the shelf. The front face of the board is covered by a transparent flexible cover sheet 21 which is secured on the board by fixing means 17 comprising a bar mounted across the front of the board adjacent the shelf 15. The fixing means may comprise front bar 17 and rear bar 25 joined by studs 24. The surface of the tongue may be roughened to enhance retention of the tongue in use in a vehicle when it is inserted between a vehicle window and the window sill or fascia.

Description

A Document Display Holder Eield This invention relates to a document display holder which is usable for displaying advertisements, public notices, warning signs, technical information or similar and is especially for use in cars or commercial vehicles.
Background of the Invention
When displaying vehicles for sale, garages are now required to place noticesdisplaying information relating to specific vehicles on or in proximity to the vehicle. A known method of displaying the information is to place a notice on a lectern near the vehicle. This is expensive since a lectern must be provided adjacent each vehicle.
Other methods of displaying information include placing the notice in a holder affixed to a vehicle window by suckers or a hook which is sandwiched between the top edge of the window and its frame. In GB 2372 870 the present applicant disclose a document holder forse in a vehicle and comprising a notice board having a retaining clip at one end with a. substantially planar tongue which is insertable between a vehicle window glass and the window sill or facia. A Display board with a tongue is also in GB 2372 619.
The present invention provides a simplified document display holder.
Statements of'Inventjon
According to the present invention there is provided a document holder comprising a rigid planar board having a front face and a rear face with an integral shelf or ledge at one end of the front face with an *-integral substantially planar tongue extending away from the shelf -the front face of the board being covered by transparent flexible cover having one end adjacent the shelf and fixing means seduring the cover in place and mounted to the board.
The transparent cover material is a thin transparent plastics material about 0.010 inches (0.25mm) thick such as PET, or polycarbonate. The cover may be accommodated within a recess on the front face The fixing means may comprise a bar mounted across the front of the board adjacent the shelf, and preferably, the front bar is mounted to the board by studs accommodated in aligned apertures in the cover. The bar o+i the front face may be secured to a similar bar on the rear face by said studs.
The studs may be integrally formed on the front bar nd may be secured in apertures in the rear bar preferably formed within raised bosses accommodate by apertures formed in the board.
The board, shelf and tongue clip may be formed from a thermoplastics material which is rigid and has good temperature resistance for example polycarbonate The tongue may be tapered being thinnest at its distal end away from the shelf. The tongue may be inclined forwardly from the edge of the shelf or ledge away from the board, preferably at an angle of between 10-30 degrees. The front surface of the tongue may be roughened to enhance retention of the board in use in the vehicle.
The transparent sheet material is preferably made from a transparent plastics material such as PET (polyethyleneterapthallate); polyvinyl chloride, polyvinylidene chloride, nylon etc. and may also be fixed in place by adhesive.
Description of the Drawin
The invention will be described by way of example and with reference to the accompanying drawings in WFiich: Fig. 1 is a front view of a document holder according to the present invention, Fig. 2 is section taken on the line 11-Il of Fig. Fig. 3 is a enlarged view of the display bord within the circle A shown in Fig. 2, and Fig. 4 is a section through the board taken on the line IV-IV of Fig 1.
Detailed Description of the Invention
With reference to Figs. 1 to 4, there is shown a document holder 10 which comprises a rigid planar board 11 having a front surface 12 and a rear surface 13. The front surface 12 has a recess 14 which accommodates a transparent cover material 21 overlaying the board 11. The transparent cover 21 is typically slightly larger than A4 size with an A4 size recess 14 set into the front surface 12 of the board 11.
The transparent cover 21 is formed from a flexible plastic sheet material such as polyethyleneterephthallate sheet (PET), PVC sheet, or polycarbonate sheet, about 0.25mm (0.010 ins) thick.
At one end of the board 11, there is provided a shelf or ledge 15 projecting forwardly of the front surface 12 and providing a shoulder 16 normal to the front surface 12 against which the transparent cover 21 can sit. A tongue 22 extends away from the front edge of theshelf 15 and is preferably a short broad tongue having a length of less than 50% of its width and preferably between 20-30% of the width. The tongue 31 is inclined forwardly relative to the front surface at angle of inclination of beween 5-30 2.5 degrees of axc. The thickness of the tongue 22 is tapered away from the shelf 15 being thinnest at its distal end.
The front surface 23 of the tongue may be textured or roughened by surface effects such ribs, knurling, serrations so a to help retaining the board in location in use.
The lower end portion of the cover 21 is held to the board 11 by a fixing means 17 which is in form of a substantially flat bar with champfered end portions 18 and which extends the full width of the cover. The bar 18 is provided with integral pegs 19 on its inner face. Any number of pegs 19 may be used as is desired. In the present example there are three pegs 19 spaced apart along the length of the bar 17. The bar and integral pegs 19 are moulded from suitable thermoplastics material such as nylon, polypropylene, polycarbonate etc. The pegs 19 pass through aligned apertures 24 in said lower end of the cover to engage a substantially. flat bar on the rear surface 13 of the board. The rear bar 25 has a plurality of bosses 26 thereon, there being one boss 26 in alignment with each peg 19. The bosses are cylindrical and are accommodated in co-orating dircular apertures 27 in the lower end portion of the board 11. The apertures 27 are coaxial with the apertures 24 in the cover 21. Each cylindrical boss 26 has central concentric bore 28 which also extends through the body of the rear bar 25 forming through passageways. which in use accommodate the pegs 19 when the front bar.17 is assembled to the rear bar.
The cover 21 is held in place by the front bar 17 and the pegs 19 which pass through aligned holes 24 in the cover 21 to engage in the respective bores 28 in the aligned bosses 26 on the rear bar 25.
The document holder 10 can have a display item inserted between the cover 21 and board 11. The holder is preferably for use on the inside of a vehicle adjacent a door window or windscreen. The holder is utilised by inserting the tongue 22 down between the window glass and the decorative or weather strip along the top of the inner window sill or between a facia panel and windscreen. The tongue when inserted for its full depth holds the front surface 12 of the board 11 very close to the vehicle window. The surface effect on the front surface 23 of the tongue 22 helps retain the holder 10 from accidently falling from its location and the holder is suffibiently light in weight and has sufficient rigidity to remain upright in position and not to be dislodged by opening and closing of a car door.
