Description

TITLE OF THE INVENTION

LABEL HOLDER WITH INTEGRAL SIGN CLIP
FIELD OF THE INVENTION

This invention relates to a one-piece label holder used in merchandising shelves. More particularly, it relates to a label holder comprising a display portion alternatively including a finger hold and a mounting portion including a sign clip integrally joined to the mounting panel front face. The label holder provides support to both a large auxiliary sign card and a conventional price-ticket, both being displayed together without one obstructing the other.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

In the past, conventional label holders have consisted of extruded plastic strips with two or three panels joined integrally along their bottom and, or, top edges. To extend the function of these label hoiders, auxiliary card holders and sign clips have been selectively included in them. Forsburg in U.S. Patent 3,320,690 discloses a price-ticket holder with a sign clip on its back panel to hold the back of the very ticket it is intended to display. This price-ticket holder has the disadvantage of performing a single function and provides no mechanism for attaching an auxiliary sign.

Nagel discloses in U.S. Patents 6,266,906 B1 and 6,708,436 a plastic label holder with respectively two or three panels, both having an integral sign clip included in the label holder front panel upper edge. One disadvantage of these label holders is that, when a sign tag is being displayed over the front panel, it obstructs view to the price-ticket.
Lewis et al. teach in U.S. Patent 5,456,034 a clip-on scanner hook label holder provided to clip onto a metal plate. The clip element is located on the back panel upper edge of the label holder. This two-panel holder is not mountable to a conventional C-channel shelf or a wall surface.

Kump et al. disclose in U.S. Patent 6,026,603 a label holder with rearward extending dust flange that is selectively provided with a mountable display card holder. Again, this frontally located card holder has the disadvantage of obstructing view to the price-ticket in addition to requiring two separate parts to achieve two functions.

Moreover, most known label holders are difficult to mount. Many holders have front panels that are difficult to sufficiently separate for quick positioning or removal of labels. Others have label pockets that are difficult to clean thoroughly. Yet other label holders require an increased height to improve label pocket opening function, which in turn, causes a reduction of visibility of the merchandise being displayed. And finally, providing stability to auxiliary large merchandising signs or cards has been a challenge in prior art.

Accordingly, it has been considered desirable to develop a new and improved label holder which would overcome the foregoing difficulties and others while providing better and more advantageous overall results.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

It is an object of the invention to remove or reduce the drawbacks of the prior art label holders for extruded thermoplastic information display holders and to provide an improved label holder of this kind.
In accordance with one aspect of the present invention, a new and improved one-piece label holder is provided for a merchandising display.
More particularly, in accordance with this aspect of the invention, the label holder includes three panels, a first front and second middle panel defining an upwardly opening label pocket forming a first front display portion of the label holder and a third back panel mounting portion incorporating a sign clip therein forming a second information display portion of the label holder. The first front clear panel is joined to the second middle panel at their respective bottom edges. The third back panel is also joined to the middle panel in their respective upper portions.
In accordance with another aspect of the present invention, a label holder comprising a back panel mounting portion that incorporates an integral low-profile sign clip and a front display portion including a front panel that further comprises a forwardly projecting finger hold.

The projecting panel is joined integrally with a downwardly extending overlay panel. The overlay panel is spaced a short distance in front of the back panel. The overlay panel and the back panel define together an opening including a throat for securing an auxiliary sign tag therein.

It is a special object of the invention to provide an improved label holder that displays two information elements; a first one, smaller in size, being displayed from a first frontally located display portion and a second one, much larger, being displayed from the back mounting portion of the same label holder, one information element complementing the other.
Another object of the invention is to provide an improved label holder wherein the back panel of the mounting portion of the label holder comprises on its front face an integral sign clip and on its back face a fastener means selected from the group consisting of a chemical, magnetic or hook and loop fastener means.
In accordance with another aspect of the present invention, a one-piece label holder comprising three panels wherein, two front panels, parallel to each other, forming a display portion of the holder, are joined at their upper edge to a third back panel upper portion, said third back panel mountable to the C-channel of a merchandising shelf or to a wall surface. The third panel incorporates a sign clip therein.

A further object of the invention is to provide an improved label holder wherein a sign clip is integrated into its mounting panel providing a fulcrum effect for making shelf mounting easier.

Another object of the invention is to provide an improved label holder wherein an integrated sign clip in the mounting portion behind the display portion, increases the display angle of the label front panel, providing improved visibility to merchandise displayed below label holding strips.

Yet, another object of the invention is to provide an improved taller size label holder wherein an integrated sign clip in the holder mounting portion provides an increased upward angle to the label front panel, and permits the display portion of label holder to be of greater height without affecting visibility to merchandise displayed below the label holder.

A still further object of the invention is to provide an improved label holder including a finger hold on its front top edge, permitting a front label panel to be readily separated from a middle label panel for easy insertion and removal of a merchandising label.

A still further object of the invention is to provide a label holder with an integral sign clip on its mounting portion, and wherein panels of the display portion 5 contribute to provide added grip to the sign clip.

A still further object of the invention is to provide a label holder that cooperates securely with a special auxiliary sign pocket wherein the auxiliary sign pocket opening has a folded panel edge which abuts against the bottom lip of a merchandising C-channel shelf.

In accordance with yet another aspect of the present invention, a one-piece label holder comprising three panels wherein, two front panels, parallel to each other, forming a display portion of the holder, are joined at their upper edge to a third back panel upper portion; said third back panel mountable to a C-channel of a merchandising shelf or having a fastening means to attach to a wall surface.
The third panel incorporates a sign clip therein.

These and other objects and advantages of the invention, which also will appear from the following description, are achieved while maintaining the advantages of the prior art.

Other features and details of the invention will be apparent upon a review of the detailed description that follows and the appended drawings.
