Abstract
A document display holder comprises a planar support member 10 and a clear protective sheet 13 overlying the support member, between which documents are held. A tongue 12 is provided, extending from a lower end of the support member, for fixing the device in a window or windscreen of a vehicle. The protective sheet 13 is clamped to the support member adjacent its lower end by a single clamping strip 14 secured to the support member. The lower end of the support member and the clamping strip 14 are preferably provided with inter engaging projections 17, 19 to locate the strip on the support member. A fastening member, e.g. a rivet 21, is received as a friction grip in a hole to hold the two components together. The support member may be made from plastics or metal.
Description
DOCUMENT DISPLAY DEVICE
This invention relates to document display devices and in particular to such display devices for use in displaying documents providing information relating to motor vehicles inside vehicles in vehicle showrooms and other places where vehicles are sold.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a cheap but effective document display device which is also of a pleasing appearance and is particularly suitable for displaying a document in the window or windscreen of a vehicle.
Thus according to the present invention there is provided a document display device comprising a generally planar support member, a tongue extending from a lower end of the support member for fixing the device in a window or windscreen of a vehicle, a clear protective sheet overlying the support member to cover any document placed on the support member, the protective sheet being clamped to the support member adjacent the lower end thereof solely by a single clamping strip secured to the support member.
Such a document display device is simple and cheap to manufacture and has a minimum of parts.
The lower end of the support member may have a shoulder below the protective sheet and the clamping strip. This provides additional support for the protective sheet and clamping strip on the support member.
Preferably the lower end of the support member has a raised portion against which the protective sheet is clamped by the clamping strip to raise the inner surface of the protective sheet above the adjacent surface of the support member to accommodate a document displayed between the protective sheet and the support member.
The lower end of the support member and the clamping strip may be provided with inter engaging projections to hold the strip on the support member.
A fastening member extending from either the support member or the fastening strip may be received as a friction grip on a hole provided in the other of the fastening strip or support member to hold the two components together.
The fastening member may be separate from both the support member and clamping strip.
Alternatively the fastening member may be integral with the support member or clamping strip.
The support member and protective strip may be manufactured from plastics material by, for example, injection moulding.
The present invention will now be described, by way of example only, with reference to the accompanying drawings in which:-Figure 1 is a plan view of a document display device in accordance with the present invention; Figure 2 is a side view of the document display device looking in the direction of the arrowAof Figure 1; Figure 3 is an enlarged view of the circled region B of Figure 2; Figure 4 is an exploded perspective view of the display device of Figure 1, and Figure 5 shows the display device in use inside a vehicle window.
A display device 10 in accordance with the present invention has a planar support member 11 with a tongue 12 extending from the lower end 11 a of the support member. A clear protective sheet 13 overlies the support member 11 and is clamped to the support member 11 by a single clamping strip 14 as will be described in more detail below. A document 28 to be displayed may therefore be inserted between the support member 11 and the protective sheet 13.
The lower end of support member 11 has a support shoulder 15 located below both the protective sheet 13 and clamping strip 14. Support member 11 also has a raised portion 16 provided with a number, e.g. three, hollow projecting female bosses 17 which extend through corresponding holes 18 in the protective sheet 13 and in turn receive smaller diameter male projecting bosses 19 formed on the underside of clamping strip 14. Bosses 19 also extend into recesses 20 within bosses 17 in the support member 11 as best seen in Figure 3. The clamping strip 14 is secured to the support member 11 by a separate rivet 21 which is a clearance fit in a hole 22 in support member 11 and a friction fit in a bore 23 in the centre of boss 19.
The raised portion 16 ensures that there is a space for a document 28 between the inner surface of the protective sheet 13 and the adjacent surface of the support member 11.
Typically the support member 11 will be made from plastics material such as polycarbonate, polypropylene or ABS and is formed with the tongue 12 as a single piece injection moulding. Similarly the clamping strip 14 may be made from the same plastics materials also by injection moulding. Other materials such as metal may be used for the support member 11. The rivets 21 may be made from metal, e.g. aluminium, or could be made from plastics material also. The protective sheet 13 may be clear PVC or made from acrylic material.
It is also possible to make the rivet 21 as an integral part of the support member 11.
In an alternative design, not shown, the clamping strip 14 may be provided with integral projecting pegs or studs which are a friction fit in corresponding holes in the support member 11.
As will be appreciated, when the display device is in use, the tongue 12 is inserted, for example, between the inside surface 25 of the window glass 26 of a vehicle and the associated door glass seals 27 as shown in Figure 5. Thus any document 28 placed in the display device between the protective sheet 13 and the support member 11 will be clearly visible outside the vehicle.
Alternatively the tongue 12 can be inserted between the inside of the windscreen glass and the adjacent portion of the vehicle dashboard to display a document through the windscreen of a vehicle.
The present invention thus provides a simple and cheap to manufacture display device which is suitable for the display information in a window or windscreen of a vehicle.
Claims (9)
- CLAIMS1) A document display device comprising a generally planar support member having a tongue extending from a lower thereof for fixing the device in a window or windscreen of a vehicle, a clear protective sheet overlying the support member to cover any document placed on the support member, the protective sheet being clamped to the support member adjacent the lower end thereof solely by a single clamping strip secured to the support member.
- 2) A document display device according to claim 1 in which the lower end of the support member has a shoulder below the protective sheet and the clamping strip.
- 3) A document display device according to claim 1 or 2 in which the lower end of the support member has a raised portion against which the protective sheet is clamped by the clamping strip to raise the inner surface of the protective sheet above the adjacent surface of the support member to accommodate a document displayed between the protective sheet and the support member.
- 4) A document display device according to any one of claims I to 3 in which the lower end of the support member and the clamping strip are provided with inter engaging projections to hold the strip on the support member.
- 5) A document display device according to any one of claims I to 4 in which a fastening member extending from either the support member or the fastening strip is received as a friction grip on a hole provided in the other of the fastening strip or support member to hold the two components together.
- 6) A document display device according to claim 4 and 5 in which the fastening member is separate from both the support member and clamping strip.
- 7) A document display device according to claim 4 and 5 in which the fastening member is integral with the support member or clamping strip.
- 8) A document display device according to any one of claims 1 to 7 in which the support member and protective strip are manufactured from plastics material.
- 9) A document display device constructed and arrange substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to and as shown in the accompanying drawings.Amendments to the claims have been as follows:CLAIMS1) A document display device comprising a generally planar support member having a tongue extending from a lower end thereof for fixing the device in a window or windscreen of a vehicle, a clear protective sheet overlying the support member to cover any document placed on the support member, the protective sheet being clamped to the support member adjacent the lower end thereof solely by a single clamping strip secured to the support member.2) A document display device according to claim 1 in which the lower end of the support member has a shoulder below the protective sheet and the * clamping strip.3) A document display device according to claim 1 or 2 in which the lower end of the support member has a raised portion against which the protective sheet is clamped by the clamping strip to raise the inner surface of the protective sheet above the adjacent surface of the support member to accommodate a document displayed between the protective sheet and the support member.4) A document display device according to any one of claims 1 to 3 in which the lower end of the support member and the clamping strip are provided with inter engaging projections to hold the strip on the support member.5) A document display device according to any one of claims 1 to 4 in which a fastening member extending from either the support member or the fastening strip is received as a friction grip in a hole provided in the other of the fastening strip or support member to hold the two components together.6) A document display device according to claim 4 and 5 in which the fastening member is separate from both the support member and clamping strip.7) A document display device according to claim 4 and 5 in which the fastening member is integral with the support member or clamping strip.8) A document display device according to any one of claims 1 to 7 in which the support member and protective strip are manufactured from plastics material.9) A document display device constructed and arrange substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to and as shown in the accompanying drawings.
