Accenting-arrangements,. ink-ribbon mechanism. -In arrangements in which an accenting-key operates a multicolour ink-ribbon vibrator independently of the letter-spacing universal bar, the accenting-key has a finger engaging a roller on a link positively connected to the vibrator-operating lever, the point of connection being adjustable to vary the throw; the accenting-key may bear both accent and ordinary characters, the carriage shift mechanism controlling an interponent for causing the accent key to operate the letterspacing universal bar when the carriage is in one of the case positions. Fig. 1 shows the arrangement applied to the mechanism described in Specification 195,841 and comprising a vibrator lever 62 having a stud 58 engaging a channel 57 on an operating-lever 43 formed with a slot 48 receiving a stud 42 which has a one-way connection with a link 41 pivoted to an arm 35 on the shaft 31 of the universal bar 29, the stud being adjustable by a finger-lever 74 to vary or silence the throw. The accenting-key lever 84 is now provided with a finger 86 engaging a roller 87 on a link or slide 90 having a wing 95 formed with a slot 96 conforming to the slot 48, the stud 42 passing through both slots. The link 90 is mounted at the front in a bracket 91 and is formed at the rear with a guide-fork 94 engaging the pivot 51 of the lever 43. When the ordinary key-levers 16 are depressed, lugs 32 rock the universal bar, and the letter-spacing mechanism and vibrator are operated thereby. When the accenting-key lever is depressed, the lever 43 is operated by the link 90, the universal bar and the link 41 remaining at rest. When there are two or more accenting-key levers, the link 90 is provided with two or more rollers for engaging fingers on the key-levers. The rollers may be mounted adjustably. Mechanism for causing the accenting-key to operate the universal bar when the carriage is in one of the case positions, for instance the " capital " position comprises a slide 110, Fig. 9, which has pin-and-slot mounting 114 on the accenting-key lever 84 and is connected to an arm 108 adapted to be rocked by a shaft 103 operated by shift-key mechanism such as that described in Specification 154,087. The slide has a lug or interponent 115 which misses the universal bar 116 when the carriage is in the normal or " figure " position, but engages the universal bar when the carriage is in the " capital " position.
