Abstract

247,842. Suchorzynski, A. von. Aug. 13, 1925. Hearing-appliances - A metal diaphragm 1, Fig. 1, mounted in a rubber shell 2 fitting the concha of the ear, is connected by a spiral spring 3 having a looped end 4 to a membrane bag 5 bearing against the tympanum. In a modification the spring 3 is covered by a soft rubber tube, which thereby assumes a corrugated form. The tube may be integral with the bag 5. The spring may be oval to conform to the auditory canal. In a modification the vibrations are communicated from the diaphragm to the membrane bag through a body of liquid. The appliance shows in Fig. 5 comprises a glass vessel 2 fitting the concha, provided with a metal ring 8 in which is fitted a cone 9 and a diaphragm 10. The cone 9 is provided on the outside with a diaphragm 13, clamped by a cap 12, and connected by a pin 14 with a conical rubber diaphragm 16, clamped with a wire gauze cover 17 in a ring 15. The bulb 2 is connected by a tube 19 to the membrane bag bearing against the tympanum. The spaces within the bulb 2 and cone 9 are filled with water, oil or other liquid, air bubbles 20, 21 being preferably left to provide elasticity. It is stated that owing to the different sizes of the diaphragms 16, 13, 10 amplification of the vibrations according to the principle of the hydraulic press is produced. The tube 19 is preferably slightly narrower than the auditory canal so as to leave an air space. A wire spiral may be mounted within the tube 19.
