Abstract

An environmentally safe insecticide and repellant that is toxic to insects and all stages of the life cycle of mosquitoes, which also prevents mosquito eggs from hatching, kills termites, ticks, fleas, flies and other insects. The insecticide is non-toxic to humans and other vertebrates such as dogs and cats, comprising of a water solution containing neem (leaves, bark and fruit), lemon grass (natural citronella), sour sop (leaves), eucalyptus (leaves), bay leaves, seville orange (Caribbean lemon) or lemon juice, peppermint, lavender, surfactant in the form of organic soap or organic coconut oil, for merging ingredients. The solution is integrated through boiling, mixing and straining. The insecticide solution may be applied by aerosol, misting, spraying, or pouring directly unto human or animal skin, directly unto or in the vicinity of mosquitoes and other insects or into their habitats can be poured directly into a water supply to prevent mosquito laying their eggs.

Description

DESCRIPTION
ENVIRONMENTALLY SAFE AND SKIN SAFE INSECTICIDE REPELLANT FOR HUMAN
AND OTHER VERTEBRATES USED TO ELIMINATE MOSQUITOES IN ALL STAGES
OF DEVELOPMENT FROM ADULT TO LARVAE INCLUDING PREVENTING THEIR
EGGS FROM HATCHING, WHICH CAN BE EXPELLED BY ANY MEANS SUCH AS SPRAYING, POURING, MISTING IN CLOSE PROXIMITY TO OR WORN DIRECTLY ON THE SKIN OF HUMANS, OTHER ANIMALS AND IN ADDITION ELIMINATES TICKS, FLEAS, TERMITES AND OTHER INSECTS.
Background of the Invention:
The invention is an environmentally safe insecticide developed by an herb garden owner who was answering the call of persons needing an environmentally safe insect repellent to protect from insect bites especially the disease spreading mosquito. The invention countered the use of available insecticides as they contain harsh chemical compounds, which can be toxic to vertebrates especially if inhaled consistently. There was an urgency to find a product safe for use on and around plants, humans and animals. Using traditional knowledge and experimenting with additional ingredients over a period of two years the solution herein was accomplished.
The invention: The invention is not only environmentally safe and can be applied airborne through any means of expelling such solution but can also be worn on human skin to deter mosquitoes and other biting insects. The deterring effects of the product can last up to 8 hours, with approximately three (3) to four (4) applications and can also be sprayed on animals such as dogs to protect them from insect bites, reducing potential heart worm infection. The composition also kills and deters ticks and fleas, therefore acting as a protection from ehrlichia disease common in dogs. It kills mosquitoes in the adult, pupa and larvae stages of development as well as prevents the eggs from hatching. Other insects such as ants, termites, flies and roaches were also killed when coming into contact with the solution.
The mixture is defined by boiling water in a two gallon container and adding neem leaves, neem seeds 50 -60 ounces per gallon, lemon grass leaves and stem 10 -15 ounces per gallon, mature sour sop leaves 10 -15 ounces per gallon, mature eucalyptus leaves 5 -8 ounces per gallon, bay leaves 10 -15 ounces to the gallon, 2 tbsps seville orange or lemon juice, 3 tsps lavender oil, 1/8 tsp bay oil, 2 tbsps (herbal) neem oil, 8 tsps lemon eucalyptus oil, 2 tsps citronella oil, 6 tsps (essential) peppermint oil, 1 cup liquid soap (surfactant), containing saponified organic coconut oil, organic olive oil, retained glycerine, organic peppermint oil, citric acid, vitamin E, as an alternative 3 cups organic coconut oil can also be used to allow the contents to merge.
The active insecticidal part of the composition manifests with the combination of sour sop, neem, seville orange (Caribbean lemon) or lemon juice and peppermint components.
These four ingredients react together to paralyse the insect through the stunting of its ganglia eventually killing it. The active ingredients when applied directly to habitats, also have the effect of stunting the development of the mosquito eggs which retards their development so as to prevent them from hatching at all. The lavender, lemon and bay ingredients act as natural insecticides which offer the deterring aspects of the composition.
The insecticide is effective if produced as an airborne spray, mist or fog but is also safe when applied directly unto the skin of humans or animals acting as a repellant to insects, just spraying in the vicinity of insects especially mosquitoes and ticks deters them from coming close by.
