Abstract
A printed sheet 10 for forming a hanging display, comprises an upper selvedge 12 bounded by an edge of the sheet and at least one score line 12a. One or more tabs 13 and a corresponding number of tab-receiving slots 18 are provided in or adjacent to the selvedge 12 or score line 12a. The tabs have a leading portion 15 which is insertable into the slots and which is provided with locking wings 15a, 15b which are bent over to lock the leading portion in the slot. The selvedge 12 enhances the rigidity of the sheet and apertures 16 in the protruding tabs allow hanging of the sheet 10. The leading portion 15 of the tabs is of tapering form, with a trailing end defined by lateral slits 17 extending inwardly from side edges to define the locking wings.
Description
HANGING DISPLAY MATERIAL
DESCRIPTION
Technical Field
This invention relates to arrangements for use in hanging display material and, in particular, to such arrangements -hereinafter referred to as "of the kind defined" -which are for mounting printed sheet material for display wherein said sheet is printed on at least one face; said sheet has an upper selvedge bounded by an edge of the sheet and at least one score line; said edge is contoured to define one or more tabs; a corresponding number of tab-receiving slots are provided in or adjacent to the selvedge or said score line, and an aperture is provided in the or each tab such that, with the upper selvedge folded over and the or each tab inserted into the or each associated tab-receiving slot to protrude upwardly therefrom, the upper selvedge enhances the rigidity of the sheet and the aperture or apertures in the protruding tab or tabs provide means for use in hanging the sheet.
Background
Arrangements of the kind defined are known from UK Patent No. 2414331 and some provide a selvedge having a plurality of elongate zones each substantially longer than the width of the tabs -and generally of a length commensurate with the length of the edge of the sheet -such that the plurality of elongate zones are all folded over to enhance the rigidity of the hanging sheet.
It has been found that such folding of several elongate zones is a manual task that is difficult and/or time-consuming to perform and there is a risk of creasing or otherwise damaging the sheet. It is therefore considered desirable to provide an arrangement of the kind defined which may ease or overcome these and/or other difficulties.
According to one aspect of this invention there is provided an arrangement of the kind defined wherein a leading portion of each tab is provided on at least one side edge with a laterally extending slit permitting -after insertion of said tab into its associated tab-receiving slot, -lateral bending over of part of said leading portion to provide a locking wing hindering tab withdrawal.
According to another aspect of this invention there is provided an arrangement of the kind defined wherein said selvedge is constituted by a single elongate zone from the edge of which said tabs extend, and wherein said tabs are provided with a plurality of score lines to permit further folding over of the tabs alone and for their insertion into said tab-receiving slots to protrude upwardly therefrom.
In a preferred embodiment each tab has a pair of said slits one to each side edge of the tab.
Brief Description of the Drawings
is By way of example, one embodiment of the present invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings of which Figure 1 is a front elevation of an unfolded blank to provide an arrangement according to this invention, and Figure 2 is an end view of the blank of Figure 1 in its folded-up or erected state.
Detailed Description of Example(s) of the Invention The mounting arrangement illustrated in the drawings comprises a sheet 10 of paper or card printed on at least the front face shown in Figure 1. The print area can extend right up to the edge of an upper elongate selvedge 12 integral with the remainder of the sheet and marked out therefrom by a score line 11. Upper selvedge 12 extends for substantially the entire width of sheet 10. No further selvedge zones are provided. Two mtually spaced tabs 13 project from the edge of elongate selvedge 12 that is opposite score line 11. Each of the tabs 13 is integral with the selvedge and marked out therefrom by a score line 12a that is generally aligned with the free edge of the single selvedge zone provided by elongate selvedge 12. Each of the tabs 13 is provided with a further score line 13a parallel to the score lines 12a and 11. The extremity 15 of each tab 13 is of generally trapezium-like form and separated from the remainder of the tab by a pair of laterally-directed slits 17, one to each side of the tab, to provide each tab extremity 15 with a pair of laterally opposite wings 15a, 15b. Each tab extremity 15 is marked out from the remainder of the tab by a score line 17a co-linear with the slit 17, and is provided with a circular aperture 16 that is to serve as a hanging point)see below). The sheet is provided with rectangular slots 18 to receive the tab extremities when the blank is folded up, these rectangular slots 18 being in general alignment with the score line 11.
The blank of Figure 1 may be printed on the front face visible in Fig 1 or on the back face or on both the front and back faces of a substrate sheet before the illustrated blank form is cut therefrom, or alternatively may be thus printed after the blank form is cut therefrom. In either event, the blank in this flat-pack' form is suitable for easy storage, transportation, and postage to an end user. The end user then has a very simple task to erect or provide from the blank of Figure 1 the mounting arrangement shown in Figure 2.
The following steps are all that is required: Firstly to fold over the selvedge 12 rearwardly (as shown in Fig 2) or alternatively forwardly along the elongate score line 11 to provide for selvedge 12 to extend at right angles to the remainder of sheet 10 and thus enhance the rigidity of the substrate sheet 10. This step is followed by bending just the tabs 13 initially downwardly -at right angles to selvedge 12 -along tab score lines 12a and also, along tab score lines 13a, forwardly and upwardly to enable the trapezium-shaped tab extremities 15 to be inserted into and through the tab receiving slots 18.
Conveniently the tab extremities 15 can be bent slightly along the score line 17a to provide for the trapezium-shaped tab extremity portions to extend substantially coplanar with the (remainder oO sheet 10. To lock each tab 13 in position, the wings iSa, 15b are folded backwards to prevent withdrawal of the tab extremity 15 from the slot 18. These folded-back wings iSa, 15b also enhance the rigidity of the protruding tab portions.
The resulting mounting 10 is self-established' (i.e. established without any additional hanging aid) and can then be hung from hooks inserted through the apertures 16 or by one or more cords strung through the apertures 16.
It will be appreciated that an adequate locking function may be provided, in an alternative arrangement, by just a single wing to the tab extremity 15, although a wing 15a, 15b to each lateral side of the tab provides greater certainty against withdrawal.
It will also be appreciated that the sheet 10 can be printed on its back surface in addition to on its front surface or instead of on its front surface.
Other modifications and embodiments of the invention, which will be readily apparent to those skilled in the art, are to be deemed within the ambit and scope of the invention, and the particular embodiments herein before described may be varied in construction and detail, e.g. interchanging where appropriate or desired different features of each, without departing from the scope of the patent monopoly hereby sought.
