Abstract

A concertina dispensing container with adaptor for the addition of water treatment chemicals to a heating system through the common traditional means of either a standard filling loop or alternatively, through a standard radiator point. The container consists of a concertina body 1 attached to a valve mechanism 2, 3. The container has a tapered screw thread so as to attach to a central heating system without the need for compound or sealing tape. The valve mechanism 2, 3 includes a plunger 3 provided with locating lugs. The container provides an advantage in that no draining down is required which leads to the chemical being easily added to a system with minimal disruption and time. Minimal force need be applied through the concertina bottle in order to directly discharge the contents into the heating system. The container also includes a barrel nipple adaptor to use when filling directly to a filling loop fitting, which allows the easy addition of chemicals to any heating system.

Description

Description
A concertina dispensing device with adaptor specifically designed for use within central heating systems.
The addition of water treatment chemicals within a central heating system has proved to be very difficult due mainly to the time aspect and the difficulty in adding in the product.
Systems need to be drained down is normal circumstances to release pressure and the process to add liquids can be of a messy nature and lead to spillages. After the process the system requires re-filling and vented to remove any excess air, which is also time consuming.
Due to the above reasons the majority of heating systems over the years have not been treated with chemicals which have been proved to lead to a detrimental effect on the efficiency of the heating system.
There are a number of products that are available to dispense chemicals to the system but this device offers advantages over such other devices.
The product has a 300ml concertina-style dispensing bottle that ensures that all the liquid is removed from the container with minimal wastage.
In existing systems filling loops or a threaded cap at the top of the radiator are common standard filling points for the addition of chemicals but there has not been a product that has been produced to accommodate both of these areas, The adaptor to the concertina dispenser has a dual function of fitting into a standard filling loop and also direct into a standard radiator.
The invention, and in particular, with reference to Drg No 1 and Drg No 7, water treatment chemicals can be placed in a sealed container that is designed to mate with a fitting on a heating system so that the product can be directly dosed to hot or cold pressurised systems.
The concertina product as seen on Drg No 2, holds the water treatment liquid until its requirement to dispense into a system.
The concertina bottle is designed to hold an amount of chemical and is made from a low density polyethylene material that ensures that the product is flexible enough to compress without any great mechanical force.
Item 3, which relates to Drg No's 3 and 4 show the adaptor configuration and plunger.
The adaptor, Drg No 3, is designed with a male thread to go into a central heating system and seal against the 2mm 45 degree angle shoulder.
The plunger device is designed to omit the chemical when the concertina bottle is put under pressure and released. The design of the adaptor has a cross-section rib inlet to ensure that the liquid is dispersed equally when the concertina is put under manual pressure.
The adaptor also has included locating flats to ensure that when screwed in to a system the required force can be achieved by use of a tool to create a seal.
The plunger, Drg No 4, is designed with 2 x 0.5mm ribs as locating points as an interference fit within the internal body of the plunger Drg No 3. This ensures that the liquid is held within the concertina bottle and is not released until force is applied.
The plunger also has a 4.2mm diameter holding piece at the end to ensure that when the concertina bottle is under pressure, the plunger will hit the underside of the adaptor and keep within the assembly.
The 18mm diameter x 3mm plunger top is designed to create a seal against the plunger top by spark eroding the diameter and 10 degree incline.
Drg No 5 is designed to hold the plunger in place when assembled with the concertina bottle. This is a 38R glass threaded cap with a 28mm top hole to locate the body of the plunger.
Drg No 6 is a barrel nipple used in conjunction with the adaptor to enable the chemical to be injected through a filling loop fitting within a central heating system.
The adaptor fitting is a tapered thread which will create a seal without the need for any further sealing tape or compound which is also seen to advantageously save a considerable amount of time.
Item No 5 on Drg No 1 is a standard sealing cap for transportation purposes and should be used also on the disposal of the bottle to ensure that any potential hazardous chemicals that may be used will not cause any personal injury or damage to property.
