Abstract

A multi-tiered planting structure comprises a central column2, and a plurality of planting tiers3,6,9and a plurality of base plates1,5,8for supporting the tiers. Spacer sleeves4are positioned between the tiers to separate them from each other. The tiers, base plates and spacer sleeves are slid onto the column2. The structure may have an irrigation system comprising a flexible hose inserted into the column2and a plurality of water feeders on each tier. The base plates may contain ball bearing transfer devices to allow the tiers to be rotated or to revolve freely.

Description

The rotating Garden Overview of invention & purpose The rotating garden is a unique invention that enables each planting tier to be manually rotated independently aiding exposure to the sun to maximise growth, enabling ease of harvesting and making best use of available garden space.
It is designed in tiers with each tier being slotted onto a central column. Each tier is supported by arms that contain ball bearing transfer devices. The construction of both the central column and tier support arms allow for them to be supplied separately along with each of the tier planter units making transportation and storage easier. The unit could be supplied to the customer for home assembly.
The attached drawings show the rotating garden with 3 tiers but it is not limited to 3 tiers and can be manufactured as a "multi tiered" system. The planting tiers can be manufactured in different shapes and sizes -Octagonal, hexagonal or circular tiers can be made to make the best use of the material used in construction be it galvanised steel, plastic or timber.
The centre column is hollow allowing for a water irrigation system to be installed with water feeders to each tier. This would comprise of a flexible hose inserted into the central column from the top to the base. At the base it would connect to 90 degree bend and run out along one of the base support legs. It would then be connected to a standard garden hose using a straight connector. Slots in the central column and outer sleeves above each tier allow for feeder tubes to be inserted to irrigate each tier.
As each tier can be rotated individually and independently, it makes planting, watering and harvesting more easy than conventional raised planters. It also allows for a range of vegetable or plant root lengths to be planted in the most appropriate tier insuring maximum growth for particular species. It also maximises space where it maybe at a premium.
Drawings & Construction Page 1 of the attached drawings shows an exploded sectional elevation through the rotating garden with numbered component parts showing the order of assembly.
Page 2 shows the main plan and elevation of the constructed unit.
Page 3 to 7 describes and details how each of the tiers are constructed and the positing of the ball bearing transfer devices which enable each of the tiers to revolve independently and freely.
Page 8 shows a 3D dimensional view of the rotating garden The overall weight of the unit is calculated at 53.5 kgs in the 3 tier, 1.2m wide version and has been designed to support the loadings of damp compacted soil.
