Abstract

A dispensing device 1 for sanding discs 4 allows the release and attachment of a sanding disk 4 to a sander by pressing the backing pad of the sander to the outlet port 5 of the dispenser 1. The dispenser may include a base plate 3 supporting the discs 4 and an internal spring 2 presenting the discs at the outlet port 5. alignment markers 8 may be provided to ensure correct alignment between the discs 4 and the sander and a bevelled edge 6 may centralise the sander in the outlet port 5. The sanding disks may be secured by holding fingers 7 and the quantity of sanding disks may be viewed through window 9. The dispensing device may be made in one piece or from two screw threaded parts (fig. 3) and may include a securing fixture such as a suction device or a screw.

Description

Sanding Disk Applicator This invention relates to a device for applying and aligning dust extraction sanding disks to a dust extraction sander.
Dust extraction sanders require sanding disks to be applied. These sanding disks have holes which correspond to extraction holes in the sander. Sanding disks and sanders can have varying configurations of holes and require accurate application.
Presently the only way to apply the sanding disk to the sander is to remove each disk individually from its storage box and manually line up the holes of the sanding disk to that of the sander. This is both awkward and time consuming.
To overcome this, the present invention proposes a sanding disk applicator which serves as an alignment unit, and allows the single application of a sanding disk to a sander in one action, by means of pressing the backing pad of the sander to the outlet port of the sanding disk applicator.
The application of sanding disks in this manner ensures quick and accurate alignment to the sander.
The sanding disk applicator operates through the use of an internal spring loaded mechanism.
The internal spring loaded mechanism is preferably provided by a metal spring, although a plastic spring may also be used. This type of mechanism serves to ensure that the stacked sanding disks are pushed upwards towards the outlet of the unit.
Preferably the sanding disk applicator is fitted with plastic holding fingers, which serve to hold in the unused sanding disks and ensure single sanding disk distribution when in use. Although metal holding fingers may also be used.
Alignment marks are preferably provided by means of a painted groove on the outlet rim, although this may be provided by adhesive decals. Alignment marks correspond to applied decals or visual marks on the sander.
The sanding disk applicator is able to hold several sanding disks at one time and serves as a storage container for unused disks A clear window is preferably situated on the side of the sanding disk applicator, which provides a visual indicator of contents.
Preferably a suction back is fitted to secure the sanding disk applicator to a place of work.
Although a magnetic, Velcro, strap, screw or hook fixture may also be used.
The invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: Figure 1 shows the side view of the sanding disk applicator Figure 2 shows the top and side elevation of the sanding disk applicator.
in figure 1, a sanding disk applicator 1, includes the internal spring mechanism 2 attached to a plastic base plate 3, which supports the sanding disks in the storage area 4. The internal spring mechanism allows the base plate 3 to rise as the sanding disks in the storage area 4 decrease, ensuring a sanding disk is always at the fingered outlet port 5.
In figure 2, a sanding disk applicator 1, includes a bevelled edge rim 6, which serves to centralise the sander to the sanding disk applicator. Holding fingers 7 at the outlet port 5 hold the sanding disks in area 4 in place and ensure single sanding disk distribution. Sanding disks are loaded into the applicator via outlet port 5. Alignment marks 8 are positioned on the outer edge of the bevelled edge 6 and ensure correct alignment of the sanding disk to the sander, and correct position of the sanding disks within the applicator. A clear window 9 provides a visual indicator of contents.
The sanding disk applicator can be manufactured as a single one piece unit, or as a two piece unit, to allow easier change of sanding disks. Preferably a two piece unit would have a screw mechanism to hold the unit together, although any connecting device could be incorporated. The use of extender straps may also be used, to allow the top and base of the sanding disk applicator to be fitted around or through existing packaging.
The principles of the sanding disk applicator can be incorporated into the sanding disk packaging, allowing disks to be applied to the sander directly from the box.
Preferably the sanding disk applicator would be manufactured using a rigid plastic material, although the use of any rigid/semi rigid material could be used. If integrated into packaging, the units would preferably be manufactured as a disposable unit.
Figure 3 shows the sanding disk applicator constructed as a two piece unit.
Figure 4 shows the sanding disk applicator integrated into packaging In figure 3, a sanding disk applicator 1, which separates and joins 10, includes the internal spring mechanism 2 attached to a plastic base plate 3, which supports the sanding disks in the storage area 4. The internal spring mechanism allows the base plate 3 to rise as the sanding disks in the storage area 4 decrease, ensuring a sanding disk is always at the fingered outlet port 5. Sanding disks are loaded at outlet port 5 or connection point 10 and removed at connection point 10.
in figure 4, a sanding disk applicator 1 integrated into the sanding disk packaging il, includes a bevelled edge rim 6, which serves to centralise the sander to the sanding disk applicator. Holding fingers 7 at the outlet port 5 hold the sanding disks in area 4 in place and ensure single sanding disk distribution. Alignment marks 8 are positioned on the outer edge of the bevelled edge 6 and ensure correct alignment of the sanding disk to the sander. A clear window 9 at the outer packaging ii and the internal sanding disk applicator 1 provide a visual indicator of contents.
