Abstract

The present invention provides a clamping assembly for clamping pipes in a required configuration to each other while the pipes are coupled by an electro-fusion fitting to be electro-fusion welded together by the electrofusion fitting, the clamping assembly being characterized in that it incorporates a sensor 7 to sense the magnetic/ electromagnetic field(s) generated by a said electro-fusion fitting when the coil(s) of the fitting are energized and thereby verify that the clamping assembly is being used toclamp the pipes in place when the electro-fusion fitting is energized for the welding. The clamping assembly may also comprise punch / die pipe marking means and the pipes may be made from polyethylene or polypropylene.
