Abstract

This invention relates to a device to help in the prevention of people being scolded or injured through accidents involving hot liquid or food stuffs being accidentally knocked off cookers, hobs, stoves and the like. An embodiment comprises a locking ring 1 which is attachable or bondable to a cooker's pan grid or cooking surface. A separate pan base 2 with locking tabs 3 is fixed or bonded to the base of a pan and is placed onto the locking ring 1, rotated and is then held securely in a locked position. The locking mechanism may be mechanical, magnetic or electromagnetic. The devices may be detachable or may be incorporated into a pan or cooker.

Description

Lockdown Scold Prevention Aid This invention relates to a device to help in the prevention of people (children and adults) being scolded and injured through accidents involving hot or boiling liquids and food stuffs being accidentally or unintentionally knocked off of cookers, hobs, stoves and the like (all to be referred to as cookers hereinafter).
Conventional pans, pots, cooking utensils (all to be referred to as pans hereinafter) and cookers, as used in everyday life, contain an inherent risk. It is a matter of public record that thousands of people are taken to A and E each year suffering scolds and bums involving accidents where pans, for whatever reason, are dislodged or unintentionally knocked off of cooking surfaces and heat sources.
To address this problem and address the issue of large numbers of people being scarred and injured, this invention proposes a locking device to lock pans securely to cookers and any cooking surface. The locking mechanism may be mechanical, magnetic or electro-magnetic.
The invention will now be described solely by way of example and with reference to the accompanying drawings (three pages containing six figures) In which: Figure 1 shows the locking ring which attaches to or is pre-designed into cookers and a locking base which attaches to pans, Figure 2 shows the underside of the locking ring, grub screw and the grub screw holes for the attachable locking ring, Figure 3 shows a typical cooker and pan-grid, Figure 4 shows the locking point and the locking groove in the locking ring, Figure 5 shows the direction of rotation of the locking ring base for right-handed operation, Figure 6 shows the direction of rotation of the locking ring base for left-handed operation.
In figure 1, a locking ring I is attachable or bondable to a cooker's pan-grid or cooking surface. A separate pan base 2 with locking tabs 3 is fixed/bonded to the base of a pan and is placed onto the locking ring and rotated through circa 45 degrees and held secure in a locked position.
In figure 2 the underside of the locking ring which is attachable to a pan-grid contains locking clamps with grub screw and grub screw holes I to secure the locking base to the pan-grid.
hi figure 3 a typical cooker pan-grid I and cooker 2 is an example to identify what the locking base is attached to. The locking base is held securely to the pan-grid at various points by aligning the locking base clamping points to the specific pan-grid 3 and tightening the grub screws.
In figure 4 the locking ring includes a locking groove I and a locking point 2 whereby no unintentional lateral movement of an attached locking base is possible.
Figure 5 shows the angle of rotation for right-handed operation 1, in this example approximately 45 degrees, in order to lock securely the pan base to the locking ring.
Figure 6 shows the angle of rotation for left-handed operation 1, in this example approximately 45 degrees, in order to lock securely the pan base to the locking ring.

Claims (5)

  1. Claims 1. A fixing and securing mechanism providing attachment means to ensure pans are locked secure to cookers, pan-grids and any cooking surface.
  2. 2. A fixing and securing mechanism according to claim 1, in which the fixing means is provided by a locking base which is attachable or is bondable to the base of a pan and a fixed locking ring which is attached or bonded to a cooker's pan-grid or cooking surface.
  3. 3. A fixing and securing mechanism according to claim 1, in which the fixing means is provided by a pre-designed pan with locking base features and a fixed locking ring which is attached or bonded to a cooker's pan-grid or cooking surface.
  4. 4. A fixing and securing mechanism according to claim 1 in which the fixing and securing means is provided by a pre-designed lockable pan and a pre-designed cooker, housing an in-built locking ring or similar locking capability.
  5. 5. A fixing and securing mechanism according to any of the preceding claims in which the fixing means to secure a pot to a cooker or cooking surface can be a variation or combination of mechanical, chemical, magnetic or electro magnetic devices and further more can be detachable devices or pre designed in-built features of pans and cookers.
