Abstract
246,911. Imray, O. Y., (O'Connell Motor Truck Co.). Nov. 3, 1924. Control gear for driving in either direction; controlling different functions by same lever.-Relates to a motor vehicle adapted for driving in either direction in which alternative seats for the driver are located on opposite sides of the steering hand-wheel and the controls are adapted to be operated from either seat. The steering column 18, Fig. 2, may be arranged vertically and the driver occupies either of the seats 20, 21. The clutch and brake pedals 28, 29 are arranged symmetrically on either side of the steering column and each is adapted to operate either the brake or the clutch according to the direction in which the vehicle is driven. This is effected by the mechanism shown in Figs. 3 and 4, in which the pedal 28 is keyed to a shaft 31 and is adapted when moved in one direction to apply the brake by means of a chain 36 attached to an arm 35 also keyed to the shaft 31, and when moved in. the other direction to operate the clutch through an arm 40, a tension link 42, and an arm 41 loose on the clutch operating shaft 39, but adapted to turn it by engagement with a stop 51 keyed thereon. The pedal 29 is loosely mounted on the shaft 31, but is similarly adapted to operate the brake by a chain 37 or to operate the clutch by similar linkage and a stop 52 on the clutch shaft 39. The remaining controlling members are adapted to be operated from either seat.
