Gases, treating electrically.-A portable ozone generator, adapted to work under comparatively low tension (1000 volts or less) comprises an exposed ozone-producing surface connected to the low-tension lead of a transformer, the parts of the apparatus exposed to the higher voltage being inaccessible from the outside. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 1, the electrodes B, C are separated by mica or other insulating material A, the electrode C forming part of, but insulated from a hood G which encloses the electrode B. The electrode C is of open-work or perforated structure and is connected to the low-tension lead N of the transformer H enclosed in a casing E by a conductor D, the inner electrode B, which may be solid, being connected to the high-tension terminal of the transformer by a conductor F inside the casing. The ozone is generated at the surface of the electrode C, which is exposed to the surrounding atmosphere. In a modification, Fig. 3, the exposed perforated electrode C<1> is surrounded by the insulation A<1> and the hightension electrode B<1>.
