Abstract

A bag with ties designed to fasten behind the handlebars of a bicycle, such as under a handlebar stem, and to be slung over the handlebars to hang above the front wheel. The bag may include a flap with two eyes (4, fig. 1) through which the ties can be threaded to enable the top of the bag to be compressed by tightening the ties.

Description

Bicycle Luggage Carrier This invention relates to a device for carrying luggage on a bicyde.
At present there are the following options for carrying luggage on a bicycle: * by attaching containers such as panniers to a rack above and beside the rear wheel -this system is heavy, it is time consuming to attach the rack to the bicycle and to fill and empty the container(s), difficult to clean and relatively expensive * by carrying it on the rider's back -this affects the rider's clothing, movement and comfort.
* by a basket or rigid bag attached to the front wheel fork / handlebars -this is inflexible, heavier and harder to install than the Cycle Luggage Sling and may be dangerous at night if it covers the front lights and reflector.
The Cycle Luggage Sling offers a fourth option that avoids the disadvantages mentioned above and can be fitted to and removed from a bicycle in seconds.
It is a bag that is designed to be tied to the front wheel fork and slung over the handlebars to hang above the front wheel. If it is desired to keep items in separate bags eg a laptop computer and a packed lunch, a second Cycle Luggage Sling can be added after the first is attached (and stowed in the first bag when not in use).
The invention will now be described solely by way of example and with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 shows (1) the bag 40cm x 35cm deep (2) a 15cm flap (open) (3) two 45cm x 2cm "boot lace" type ties attached to each side of the opening.
(4) two eyes through which the laces can be passed set 10cm apart in the base of the flap.
Figure 2 shows a section through the bag (1) the bag (2) the flap (closed) (3) a "boot lace" type tie passed through an eye and coiled for storage (4) an eye Figure 3 shows the bag after it has been attached with a bow behind the handlebars, but before it has been slung over the handlebars.
Figure 4 shows the bag attached to the bicycle in carrying position. When the Cycle Luggage Bag is in place, it hangs above the top of the front wheel with a gap of at least 2cm.
The bag can be manufactured from a single piece of shower proof machine washable cloth 45cm x 85cm. This is stitched up each side with a wide seam into which the lace has been stitched. It is turned inside out while in use so that the seams and base of the lace ties are inside the bag.
