Description

TITLE: SCOOTER SEAT ATTACHMENT
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
(a) Field of the Invention
The present invention relates to a scooter seat attachment, and more particularly, to one secured to the seat to partition the space underneath the seat with additional bag disposed on either side or both sides of a seat cover.
(b) Description of the Prior Art
One of the biggest challenges facing scooter manufacturers of today is how to maintain the sleek, stylish, fashionable look of a scooter and offer more storage capacity. Currently, there is limited storage space offered by a scooter type vehicle to the rider of such a vehicle. Storage space is limited to the internal storage container of a scooter type vehicle or a bulky hard cover luggage carrier that needs to be mounted onto the end of a scooter type vehicle and not practical for removal. Existing internal storage containers are circular in design and do not allow for large rectangular or square items to be inserted into the storage area. The majority of riders of a scooter type vehicle place many larger square or rectangular items on the floorboard of the scooter type vehicle. This creates an unsafe riding experience. Existing hard cover luggage containers require extensive mounting and are intrusive to the original styling and aesthetics of the vehicle. Scooters are now a fashion and cultural phenomenon, the majority of owners are unwilling to use such unappealing mounted luggage containers and as research has shown, would rather sacrifice storage and create an unsafe riding environment when given the lack of current options.
To prevent the seat from being overheated or developing cracks by the direct sun during summer time, an additional cover is provided such as taught in "Motorcycle Seat Protection Cover" of ROC Utility Model No. 271688 (as illustrated in Fig. 16 of the accompanying drawings). The protection cover comprises an elastic fabric (A) having provided beneath it a plurality of hook magic tapes (Al) and loop magic tapes (A2) to stick the cover to the bottom of a seat (B). However, its primary purposes are for heat insulation and fending off storm water without any function to provide glove compartment.
To easy access to the objects and optimal utilization of the space available under a seat (B), a "Motorcycle Seat Having Glove Compartment" as taught in ROC Utility Model No. 216555 (as illustrated in Fig. 17) discloses an recess (B2) separately provided in the space (Bl) at the bottom of the seat (B) and at the lower portion of the recess (B2) is disposed with an expansion belt (B3) to secure a lockset (C) of the motorcycle. However, the additional space provided by the recess (B2) merely accommodates the lockset (C). Furthermore, the recess (B2) is not necessarily available for all types of lockset.
Another improvement of a "Multi-purpose Saddlebag for Motorcycle" disclosed in ROC Utility Model No.: 263886 (as illustrated in Fig. 18) comprises a fly-pass piece (D) respectively adapted to its both sides a bag (Dl). The fly-pass piece (D) is placed on a seat (B) of a motorcycle and both bags (Dl) are hanging on both sides of the seat (B). However, the bags (Dl) are vulnerable to fall off since they are not secured to the seat (B). Furthermore, there is the absence of effective separation or division provided for the space beneath the seat (B). When the product is not in use, it is difficult to reduce its size.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
The primary purpose of the present invention is to provide a scooter seat attachment for correcting the problems of poor or insufficient glove space found with the prior arts.
To achieve the purpose, a seat cover is provided that can be inserted and secured to the seat of a scooter by means of a fastening member; or alternatively the seat cover is made of an elastic material that covers the seat. A space for storage is defined between the bottom of the seat and the lower edge of the seat cover, and a bag is adapted to either or both sides of the seat cover to provide additional space. Furthermore, the seat cover together with the bag is collapsible.
The fastening member firmly secures the seat cover to the seat of the scooter by a cord, zipper, magic tape, button, or hook. Both the seat cover and the bag are made of waterproof material to prevent objects therein from getting wetted by storm water. The present invention provides excellent binding between the seat cover and the bag to prevent from the bag being stripped off in the course of use while increasing the loading capacity of the bag. Both the seat cover and the bag are made of elastic material that is easily collapsible for storage.
In general, the present invention provides the following advantages: 1. The seat cover covers up the seat to partition the space available beneath the seat to serve as a glove compartment.
2. A proper fastening member, e.g., a zipper, is provided to the seat cover for easy opening or closing of the seat cover to fetch or place objects.
3. Additional and collapsible bag effectively increases glove space and allows to be rolled up for storage.
4. Objects are caught by a cord or the elastic seat cover to prevent them from falling off.
5. While both the seat cover and the bag are made of waterproof material, an additional overlapping cover is provided to the bag to fend off storm water.
6. The glove compartment separated from the bottom of the seat cover and the bags adapted to both sides of the seat cover significantly increase the space to accommodate more personal belongings of the rider of the scooter.
