Abstract

The invention relates to a tool for bending and marking out lead flashing. The tool comprises a groove 4 of a predetermined depth so that when the lead is inserted into the groove and bent, it is the correct length for insertion into a brickwork channel. The tool is preferably the correct length, depth and width for marking out the lead flashing. The lead bender may also be tapered at one end 1 so that it may fit into the corners and bend the lead without disturbing previously bent material. The tool may also comprise a spirit level 2 and a measuring gauge 3.

Description

Description of Invention.
This invention is designed to do lead step flashings up into brick walls.
It is designed to maintain a steady pattern of steps up the wall by having measurements on the top side of the tool so you can perfectly measure your steps and a spirit level in the centre of the tool so you can accurately keep level so the pattern and angles of the lead when marked out on lead against the wall are all in alignment.
When lead is all marked out it is then ready to cut the triangles out and when done so the tool has a one inch recess on the topside so it can be fitted onto the area of lead that goes into the wall and be easily bent over 90 degrees on each step so it can be fitted into the wall with ease.
The purpose of this invention.
Lead is particularly hard to bend and when trying to bend the lead into walls it can be really hard work on your fingers and very time consuming.
This was the main reason for coming up with the idea, so when I made the wood prototype I realised that it could be used for marking out the lead with ease and keeping level with the addition of a centre spirit level so this one tool means you don't need tape measures, rulers and lead dressers all at hand.
I have used the prototype for almost five years now and realise how effective this tool can be.
