Abstract

The invention relates to a tool for bending and marking out lead flashing. The tool comprises a groove of a predetermined depth so that when the lead is inserted into the groove and bent, it is the correct length for insertion into a brickwork channel. The tool may also be the correct length, depth and width to mark out the lead flashing. The lead bender is tapered at either end so that the tool may fit into the corners and bend the lead without disturbing previously bent material. The tool may also comprise a spirit level (2 figure 2).

Description

LEAD BENDER
TECHNTCAL FIELD
This invention relates to a lead bending tool.
BACKGROUND
The lead bending tool is the complete tool for doing lead work, which is used in many different building trades, and DIY enthusiasts. It has a built in level which enables you to follow the brick course, to make your markings on the lead level and or precise. It is also the correct length, depth and width to mark the lead. To get the angles when the lead is marked and cut. On the bottom of the lead bender is has a grove for the lead to slide into. And with one easy move the lead is bent to go into the channel cut into the brickwork.
ESSENTAIL TECHNICAL FEATURE
The lead bender is shaped at both ends to fit onto the lead and bend it without disturbing the angle above or below or by just bending straight lead work at a 90o degree angle to fit into the mortar joint. This is done by a grove with the correct depth to bend at. The lead bender has a built in level to indicate the line marking on the lead. The size and depths of the tool are the sizes needed to do lead work.
EXAMPLE
Figure 1; Shows a side view of the lead bender.
Figure 2; Shows the top view to show sprit level bubble for marking lead purpose Figure 3; Shows the bottom of the lead bender with the grove for the lead to go into and a flat plate for the lead to bend at a 90o degree angle.
Figure 4; Shows lead on brick work with lead bender and marking lines.
Figure 5; Shows lead marked with cutting lines.
Figure 6; Shows finished lead work with lead bender.
DESCRIPTION
Place lead work against the brick wall at the desired angle, then place the lead bender against the lead with the bottom of the lead bender at the bottom of the mortar joint as shown in figi ref 1 and level, using the spirit level fig2 ref 2. Mark along the top and bottom of the lead. Once all the mortar lines are marked take the lead and place on a flat surface with the lead bender as shown in figi place on the bottom of the lead make a mark at the bottom of the two lines figs ref 4.
Then mark from the bottom of the lines at the top of the lead fig 5 ref 5 to the mark which is at the bottom figS ref 4. Then cut along lines marked ref 5 + 6 removing lead off cuts fig5 ref 7 as shown in fig 6.
Bend over every point marked ref 8 using the groove in the bottom of the lead bender fig 3 ref 9 notice that the way the lead bender does not get in the way of the lead angles above or below the lead bender as shown fig 6.

Claims (1)

  1. CLAIMSLThickness and placement of the lead (fig 2) is ideal for marking bending lines.
The angles as shown (figi) can bend lead without bending the angles above and below.
The grove on the bottom (fig3) for the lead to go into and with a 90o turn the lead has a 900 degree angle hip to go into the mortar joint.
4This can be made in a range of different materials such as wood, metal, fibre, and glass moulds
