Fixed-chamber apparatus, varying quantity mecoured in and counting and registering apparatus for.-In apparatus having a measuring chamber, provided with inlet and outlet valves so connected that when one is open the other is closed, a piston therein, and means for pumping liquid into the chamber, the valves are automatically actuated at selected positions of the piston. A transparent chamber 1 carried or. a column 2 bolted to a tank 3 is fitted with a piston 4 depending from which is a pipe 5 dipping into the tank 3. This pipe passes through the piston and communicates with a bend 7 surrounding a valve 6 fitted to the underside of the piston. The pipe 5 is fitted with stops 8 co-operating with adjustable stops 18, and with a rack 9 working a counter 10. The stops 18 are mounted on a shaft 16 supported for rotation and slight endwise movement in brackets 14, 15 fixed to the liquid supply pipe 11. The upper end of the shaft 16 is bent and is adapted to engage one arm of a bellcrank lever, the other arm of which is formed with a catch which holds the common weighted spindle 25 of two plug valves 26, 27, the holes through which are at right-angles to one another. In use, a particular stop 18 is selected by moving a rack 21 to rock a wheel 19 on the shaft 16. The handle 13 is then operated to work the pump 12 and deliver liquid through the inlet valve 26 to the chamber 1, the piston rising until the corresponding stop 8 engages the selected stop 18, whereupon the shaft 16 is moved to release the catch and allow the weighted spindle 25 to rock, closing the valve 26 and opening the discharge valve 27. Any liquid leading past the valve 6 in the piston runs into the overflow pipe 5. A spring 30 located between a collar on the pipe 5 and the standard 2 assists the piston in forcing the liquid out during discharge.
