Abstract

246,215. Martin, W. E. Oct. 22, 1924. Haymaking.-A combined swath-turner and side-delivery rake of the type having two separate turning mechanisms each driven by a telescopic shaft and connected to reversible gearing through a universal joint has the mechanisms supported at their forward ends by a member having two parallel ends, one set in front of the other, these ends being adjustable so that either may be the forward one. The machine can thus work to either hand for either of its operations. The turning mechanisms d are supported by bearings c on the parallel ends b of a transverse shaft i mounted in bearings j that may be lifted through bars k connected to a bell-crank lever e operated by a rod h. Links l parallel to one arm of the lever e maintain the bars k vertical. A spring catch o locks the shaft i in position with one or the other turning mechanism advanced. In modifications the single transverse shaft is replaced by two cranked shafts, the inner main portions and the outer cranked portions of the shafts being parallel and the two shafts being connected by spur gearing or by crank arms connected by links to opposite ends of a handoperated lever on the main frame.
