Abstract
A roofing tool comprises a first and second part. The first part has a longitudinal groove along a base and a top section which is angled downwards, preferably at angle of 45°. The second part has a longitudinal vertical protuberance which fits into the groove of the first part. The second part has a plurality of horizontal holes. The first part may have a ruler attached by means of screws. The rule is reversible for both metric and imperial measurements. The first part may also include a spirit level. The first part may have sides which are inclined towards the vertical axis and have parts which allow the marking of 90° and 45° angles.
Description
MULTI-PURPOSE LEAD SHEET ROOFING TOOL.
Brief Description of Tool.
The Tool essentially comprises three parts as follows:- 1) The Main Body of the Tool which has an integral Spirit Level.
2) The Slider which has marking holes in it.
3) The Rule which Is attached to the Main Body with four screws.
The Rule is reversible as It has Imperial Units on one side and Metric Units on the reverse.
How the Tool is useJ Make Lead Flashings 1) Use the Main Body of the Tool and put the lead sheet Into the groove of the Tool and bend the lead sheet to 90 degrees.
This will give a 10mm lip on the lead for insertion into the wall.
2) . In order to make a 2inch border for the length of the lead sheet, use the marking holes in the slider.
In order to mark the brick joint to the border, use the straight base of the slider.
3) Use the wedge on the Main Body of the Tool to drive in the lead off-cuts which are used to. hold the flashings into the wall prior to sealing.
Sheet Lead Work. . 1) Use the Slider to mark width of up-stands for skylights, wails, valleys and other situations where necessary 2) Use rule, slider and/or angles for cutting holes in lead sheet as required 3) The Spirit Level is used to check that areas of the roof, or valley, are level. The movement of the bubble will indicate the, wfall, of the roof or valley together with the direction of the said fall.
4) Use the Wedge to make crease in the sheet for a marked Up-stand in valleys, skyiights or where necessary.
5) For edges of lead sheet use the Slider for marking scallops in a variety of shapes and sizes.: 6) For joining two sheets of lead together, use the edge of the Main Body of the Tool in order to make lips on both sheets.
)oin the sheets by putting the formed lips together and use the Main Body of the Tool to drive ti-e cnts together.
7) The reversible rule can be used ft measuring all various aspects of the job as required.
K b M(JLTI rurot L1AD 5h1LT KOOflNG TOOL 1/ When fitting lead to 90 degree up stands or roof pitches i.c.)5-60 degrees tile angle wedge on top of the tool above the level bb6l can b 5d as a beating wedge striking tlie slider which ft5 in ti-ic groove on th bottom 0f th tool b3 holding the wedge against th lcad and striking ti-ic bottom of the slider a straight edge can be formed in the lead.
2/The spIrIt level is used to check that areas 0f the building are level and when la9ed on a flat roof movement 0f ti-ic bubble will indicate which waj the fall on th flat roof is and th severit9 of the fall.
)/lThere are two angles on the tool when looked at,(a9 tool flat and ou can mark on l3d or timber a 90 degree ori-5 degree starter mark -This can then b increased accuratel b use of the slider from the bottom of the tool.
+/The ruler 5et into the front of the tool can be used for c1oe too measuring of lead or timber iejoint or rebate kl5 in timber or mark bend guages on lead it can be used for checking tiles guages or an intricate measuringit is reversal so can 6e used both as imperial or metric.
p/The groove channel in th bottom 0f th tool allows it to be fItted to the edge 0f th lead 5ht and bends it 90 degrees allowing it to form an edge up to ft into wall channels. Also it can bend the lead to form a joining joint between two sheets 5end tile lead 90 degrees then dress the upright lip over do same but inverted on second sheet. The twoj shapes can now be pulled together and dressed tight a bead o silicone is optional before thejoining and dressing are complete.
6/The sliderwhen helJ in line tk top of brickjoint can be 5d to mark lead Ilashings for chimneys 0f roof to wall connections. After marking the brickjoint levels onto tile lead till5 is th cut and the groove 5ed to tip tile lead to ft th wall to water seal tile flashings to the wall.
7/Also standing the tool in the middle of 6" lead (marked fir5t with the tol rule)jou can bend lead up the side 0f tile tool to make soakers for roof tile/slate fittings to go under flash ings.
8/The slider has fixed marking hol5.These allow the marking of lead margins for the bending or cutting 0f lead roll or marking 0f lead roofing 5heet Also thej can be used as compasses to mark semi circles on lead fittings for the roof edge or under windows.Therc can be + diflerent sizes 0f circles all can be repeated th no change in 9ualit9 of mark.Thc compass feature can also be used to mark a circle in tile, slate, wall or flat roof for the making of an exit for circular pipe for boiler exila ust, extractor fan pipe, vent pipe, waste pipe or anywhere a circular pipe exits from the buIldIng.Ti-ie slider can also be used as a straight marking edge for manj building uses i.e. tile marking, brick marking, lead etc.
