Abstract
The apparatus enables shelving or support panels to be attached to existing rack frameworks 1 such that the inclination of the shelf can be adjusted about a longitudinal horizontal axis. Fastened to each of the internal sides of the existing rack 1 are two or more plates 4. The plates 4 have a number of holes through which the top rail 2 can be fastened to them. The top rail 2 is fastened to the plate 4 using a mechanical fastener 7 trough the pivot hole 9 in the top rail 2. The bottom rail 3 is fastened by a mechanical fastener 7 through its pivot hole 9 to another corresponding hole in a plate 4 at either end of the bottom rail 3. The top rail 2 and the bottom rail 3 are then moved such that the rail back panels 11 are coplanar. Both top rail 2 and bottom rail 3 are equipped with rail fixing slots 10 which are a concentric with the rail pivot hole 9. A rail fixing bolt 8 is fixed through each of the rail fixing slots 10 and the corresponding hole in the plate 4 to prevent the top rail 2 and the bottom rail 3 from pivoting on the rail pivot bolt 7. The panel 5, or other structurally supporting object, is placed into the channel in the top rail 2 and then placed into the corresponding channel in the bottom rail 3.
Description
VERSATILE RAIL AND PANEL SYSTEM
The invention provides a solution to enable panels to be fitted at any angle within extant racking systems.
Existing proprietary components are available to support shelves and provide beams and dividers for storage and retail and wholesale merchandising purposes.
Conventional extant racking is designed to support only horizontal shelves and occasionally vertical dividers. This limits options in displaying merchandise.
According to the present invention there is provided a versatile rail and panel system with allowance for panels or other structurally supporting objects to be securely fastened perpendicularly to the sides of the supporting vertical extant racking at any angle rotationally about any longitudinal axis of the panels, or other structurally supporting objects.
The benefit of the versatile rail and panel system is that extant racking can be quickly adapted using a minimum number of standard components to achieve a large number of angularly supporting variations to meet individual display and merchandising requirements.
The following drawings and descriptions relate to a possible way of realising the invention.
Figure 1 shows an isometric view of a commercial extant racking system with the plates and rails installed supporting a panel.
Figure 2 is a detailed view of the interface between plate and top rail (configured as Figure 1).
Figure 3 shows a cut through view of the system showing possible fixing methods (configured as Figure. 1).
Figure 4 shows the top rail.
Figure 5 shows the bottom rail Figure 6 shows the plate Referring to the Figure 1 the versatile rail and panel system comprises of extant racking I. Fastened to each of the internal sides of the rack I are two or more plates 4. The plates 4 have a number of holes through which the top rail 2 can be fastened to them. With reference to Figure 2 the top rail 2 is fastened to the plate 4 using a mechanical fastener 7 through the pivot hole 9 in the top rail 2 as shown in Figure 4.
With reference to Figure 5 the bottom rail 3 is fastened by a mechanical fastener 7 through its pivot hole 9 to another corresponding hole in a plate 4 at either end of the bottom rail 3.
Top rail 2 has a longer front lip 11 than bottom rail 3 so that the panel or object can be dropped into the bottom rail 3 slot without falling out of the top rail 2 slot.
The versatile rail and panel system can be constructed using any form of mechanical fastener.
The rail fixing slot 10 can comprise of a single slot concentric to the pivot hole 9, or an array of slots or holes to align with the holes in the plate 4 to allow fastening at varying angles.
Any structurally supporting object with two flat parallel sides can be accommodated by this system.
The invention can be used with any supporting extant racking system.
