Abstract

A fortune teller (cootie catcher) comprises a square sheet of material foldable to create a pyramid of four moving parts. The square sheet includes cut outs (3A, 3B, 3C, 3D, figure 1) which when the sheet is folded create four pairs of flaps which can be raised independently. Figure 2 shows that flap 5A can be raised separately from flap 5B and vice versa. This prevents tearing, ripping or snapping of the material and facilitates ease of flap moving and only reveals one fortune message at one time. Image means are provided to deliver images to the sheet of material. The image means may include a removable marker pen and re-usable "peel off" stickers 20 making the toy kit customisable and re-usable.

Description

Title: Toy Kit The present invention relates to a toy kit, and especially to a kit which can formed into what is known as a "fortune teller" or "cootie catcher".
Children especially have made "fortune tellers" from folding a sheet of paper for many years.
Such "fortune tellers" are formed by folding a square sheet of paper by folding the square sheet by placing each corner into the centre of the square to create a first smaller square of folded paper. The smaller square is then turned over and folded again by placing each corner into the centre of the square to create a second still smaller square of folded paper. The second square is then formed into the "fortune teller". Numbers andlor words may be applied to the "fortune teller" to customise it.
In use of the standard paper "fortune teller" four flaps can be raised to reveal one of eight "fortune messages", but the raising of one flap reveals two messages of which only one is applicable. Also once written on, it cannot be altered.
The invention seeks to provide a kit to make the construction of a "fortune teller" simple and easy to customise and re-customise, and which only reveals one message at a time.
According to a first aspect of the present invention there is provided a kit to form a "fortune teller" comprising: a) a square of sheet material, b) cut-outs extending from the mid point of each side of the square substantially halfway to the centre of the square, and c) image means to deliver images to the sheet of matenal, in use said square sheet of material being foldable to create a fortune teller with said cut-outs creating four pairs of flaps which can be raised.
Preferably the sheet of material is water resistant or water impermeable on at least one face. In one embodiment the material is a paper coated with a plastic on both its faces.
Preferably the sheet of material is scored to facilitate folding.
Preferably the image means includes at least one washable ink pen andlor stickers. The stickers may be re-usable.
According to a second aspect of the present invention there is provided a kit to form a "fortune teller" comprising: a) a square of sheet material, said material being water resistant or water impermeable on at least one face, and f b) removable image means to deliver images to the sheet of material, in use said square sheet of material being foldable to create a fortune teller with removable images being creatable using said image means.
Preferably cut-outs extend from the mid point of each side of the square substantially halfway to the centre of the square.
Preferably the sheet of material is scored to facilitate folding.
Preferably the image means includes at least one washable ink pen and/or stickers. The stickers may be re-usable.
An embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 shows a plan view of the components of the kit, and Figure 2 shows the kit folded into a "fortune teller" with one of four pairs of flaps raised.
Referring to Figure 1 there is shown a kit I to form a "fortune teller" Kit 1 has a square sheet of material 2 formed from paper coated on both sides by plastic so that it is water impermeable.
Four cut-outs 3A,3B,3C,3D extend from the mid point of each side of the square substantially halfway to the centre of the square.
A plurality of lines 4 are shown, which may or may not be marked on the sheet of material 2, and at least some of these lines may represent "scoring" of the sheet of material to facilitate folding of the sheet of material.
Image means are provided to deliver images to the sheet of material. The image means may include a washable ink pen 10, and re- usable "peel off' stickers 20 with numbers and words thereon.
In use the square sheet of material is foldable as shown in Figure 2 to create a "fortune teller".
The cut-outs 3A,3B,3C,3D create four pairs of flaps which can be raised separately. One pair 5A,5B is shown clearly, and flap 5A can be raised separately from flap 5B and vice versa. In the know "fortune tellers" which do not have cut-outs 3A,3B,3C,3D, both flaps 5A,5B are joined and need to be raised together.
Stickers 20 can be placed in the "fortune teller". The pen may be used to write a childish fortune message like "you are a banana".
Because the stickers can be removed from the "fortune teller" and the ink from pen 10 is washable, so stickers and message can be removed and/or re-positioned and new messages written to re-customise the "fortune teller".
It is envisaged that the kit of the invention would be sold in a package.
The invention may take a form different to that specifically described above. For example the cut-outs need not be proved or the material may not be water resistant or water impermeable.
The material may also be water resistant or water impermeable only on one face. The stickers could show pictures.
Further modifications will be apparent to those skilled in the art without departing from the scope of the present invention. -

Claims (8)

  1. "CLAIMS" 1, A toy kit comprising of one square piece of material of any size with cut outs at 4 points as in figure 1, 3A, 38, 3 C, 3D, stickers and removable marker pen.
  2. 2, A toy kit according to claim i, in which the square piece of material is folded numerous times to make a pyramid of four moving parts with 8 flaps.
  3. 3, A toy kit according to claims 1,2 in which cut outs, as in figure 1, 3A, 3B, 3C, 3D allow the user to write and reveal only one secret message at a time.
  4. 4, A toy kit according to claims 1, 2, 3 and 4 includes cut outs as in figure 1, 3A, 3B, 3C, 3D to allow ease of flap moving and prevention of material tearing, ripping or snapping whilst in use.
  5. 5, A toy kit according to claims I and 2 in which stickers can be added and removed on various areas of the folded material, including all 8 flaps created by the cut outs as in claim 3.
