Abstract

A clip on funnel A, or spout, for a container, preferably a paint can, allows pouring from the container in a controlled manner. The container may have a lid receibing cavity which the funnel/ spout A prevents spilling or leaking of container contents into by virtue of its providing a seal. The device has a bracing Support/ wiping bar D for wiping excess container contents, e.g. paint, from an applicator, e.g. paintbrush, back into the container. The device can be made of plastic or metal. The bracing support D has a recess which is used to place an applicator tool or brush inside it to prevent the applicator or brush from falling in to the container.

Description

Page I Title Container Funnel & Applicator Support
Background
This invention relates to the pouring of contents from a container and removing excess material from an applicator tool or brush.
When pouring the contents of a container, controlling the flow is often difficult especially if the container is lull. Additionally when the desired quantity has been poured it is difficult to prevent residual drops from entering the retaining lid cavity and eventually preventing a firm seal being obtained when re-applying the lid. The lid seal can also be affected if any excess material is removed from an applicator tool or brush by scraping it against the inside rim of the container as it can fall into and block the sealing mechanism.
It can also be difficult to rest an applicator tool or brush on the rim of a container without it slipping and 1lling into the container.
Statement of Invention
To overcome these problems the present invention employs a partially funnel-shaped device which can be attached to the internal and external rim of the container as the device replicates the profile of the lid retaining cavity and also protrudes under the rim of the container this prevents any of the contents from the container leaking into the lid sealing mechanism when pouring out the contents, part of the design includes a bracing strut which can be used to support an applicator tool or brush and prevent it from falling into the container and it can also be used to remove any excess material from an applicator tool or brush and then allow the excess material to fall back into the container.
Advantages The shape of the funnel is such that the contents of a container maybe guided out in a controlled manner. Because the device fits inside the rim of the container and matches the profile of the container, the contents cannot revert into the lid cavity and prevent the lid from sealing eflctively. The bracing-strap has a recess so that, when the container is open and in a normally vertical position, a brush or applicator maybe supported on it without the danger of such brush or applicator falling into the container. The brace can also be used to scrape any excess material from the brush or applicator tool and allow it to fall back into the container without it interfering with lid scaling mechanism of the container.

Example
An example of the invention will now be described by referring to the accompanying drawings: Figure 1 shows the device fitted to a container E for illustration purposes only and not specific to the design. It shows the funnel A which is used to guide out the contents in a controlled manner when poured from the container, profile B matches the profile of the inside rim of the container and along with profile F which protrudes underneath the rim of the container prevents the contents when poured from leaking or spilling into the lid retaining mechanism. The device is secured to the container by profile B fitting into the lid retaining mechanism of the container and also by the retaining clips C on the external rim of the container. The bracing support D has a recess which is used to place an applicator tool or brush inside it to prevent the applicator or brush from falling in to the container, either side of the recess on bracing support D are areas where excess material can be removed by scraping the applicator tool or brush against and allowing the excess material to fall back into the container.
Figure 2 shows the device not secured to a container but showing the profile F which protrudes underneath the rim of the container this with profile B prevent any of the contents from leaking or spilling into the lid retaining mechanism, the retaining clips C fit over the external rim of the container.
Figure 3 shows the device from above Figure 4 shows the device from the front Figure 5 shows the device from the rear with funnel A, profile B, Profile F, brace with applicator tool or brush rest D and retaining clips C. Figure 6 shows a cross section view of the device and view from the side of the device

Claims (1)

  1. Page 3 Claims I. A combination funnel and applicator support that allows the pouring of contents from a container in a controlled manner and also prevents the contents from spilling or leaking into the lid retaining cavity of the container which can prevent the lid from sealing properly when refitted to the container the device can also be used to remove excess material from an applicator tool or brush and allow it to drop back into the container without it interfering with the lid sealing mechanism of the container.
