Description
AUSTRALIA
Patents Act 1990 COMPLETE SPECIFICATION STANDARD PATENT COMBINED PAINT POURER BRUSH WIPE AND BRUSH REST The following statement is a full description of the invention including the best method of performing it, known to me.
Contents: Page 1 Page 2 Page 3 Page 4 Page 5 Description Claims Drawings Drawings Explanation of drawings Page 6 Abstract COMBINED PAINT POURER, BRUSH WIPE AND BRUSH REST This invention relates to a combined paint pourer, brush wipe and brush rest that fits into the open neck of a paint can and is detachable and re-usable.
One of the major problems when painting direct from the can is the related mess of paint running down the side of the can. This also fouls the groove that retains the lid, especially when the brush is wiped on the rim of the can to remove excess paint. Another problem is where to put the brush when you take a break. A third 0 problem is how to transfer the paint from the can to another painting utensil. All these problems have been overcome by this invention.
I The COMBINED PAINT POURER, BRUSH WIPE AND BRUSH REST for paint cans is made of a resilient plastic material and has a horizontally oriented ring that clips into the open neck of a paint can.
Incorporated in the outer circumference of the ring is a tapered rib, which locates under the inner lip of the paint can and retains the ring.
.o 2 The ring is removable and re-usable. The walls of the ring extend vertically and shape to form a pouring spout at the front of the paint can and a recessed tab at the rear of the can. The left and right sides of the wall are joined centrally by a ramp, which tapers towards the .pouring spout and finishes as a rounded opening to the spout.
The edge formed by the ramp centrally across acts as a brush *wipe.
~0 The ramp itself acts as a brush rest and the brush handle is supported and located by the recessed tab at the rear of the can.
This recessed tab also has a hole in it so that it may be hung for 3 storage or display.
The ramp acts as a dam when pouring, and the rounded opening to the spout meters the flow of liquid.
THE DRAWINGS Figs. 1:1 Shows perspective views of the combined paint pourer, brush wipe and brush rest.
Fig 2 Shows a plan view of the combined paint pourer, brush wipe and brush rest.
Fig. 3 Is a sectional view taken along the line A-A of Fig. 2.
Fig. 4 Shows a side elevation of the combined paint pourer, brush wipe and brush rest looking from the right hand side.
Fig. 5 Shows a cross section detail of the ring and its locking rib.
Section B-B Is a cross sectional view taken along line B-B of Fig. 2.
Fig. 6 Shows a plan view of the combined paint pourer, brush wipe and brush rest fitted to the top of the paint can.
Fig. 7 Shows a front view of the combined paint pourer, brush wipe and brush rest fitted to a paint can.
Fig. 8 Shows a left hand side view of the combined paint pourer, brush wipe and brush rest fitted to a paint can.
Fig 9 Shows a perspective view of the combined paint oe pourer, brush wipe and brush rest fitted to a paint can.
Section D-D Is a cross sectional view taken along line D-D of Fig. 6 Detail E Shows the locking rib of the combined paint pourer, brush wipe and brush rest in relation to the paint can inner lip.
Referring to Figs. 11, it can be seen that the combined paint pourer, brush rest and brush wipe consists of an integrally formed plastic member. With the ring 20 rising to form a tapered wall 21 which in turn shapes to form a spout 22 and recessed tab 23 between the walls 21 is a ramp 24 which acts as a brush rest and a brush wipe. The ramp 24 forms a dam which meters liquid flow control via the rounded opening 25 to the spout 22.
Claims (5)
1. A horizontally oriented ring having a bottom and a top edge and a tapered cross section with a rib that locates under the inner lip of a paint can. A tapered wall section extends vertically from the ring and is shaped to form a pouring spout to the front of the to paint can, and a recessed tab with a hole at the rear of the paint can.
2. A combined paint pourer, brush wipe and brush rest as recited in claim 1, further comprising a paint brush wiper formed by joining centrally the left and right sides of the upper wall of the ring and forming a ramp that tapers towards the pouring spout, and finishes as a rounded opening to the spout. The edge of the ramp facing the rear of the can becomes the brush wipe. 2. ZO
3. A combined paint pourer, brush wipe and brush rest for paint cans as recited in claim 2, wherein the said ramp tapers forward towards the spout to allow paint to drain back into the paint can.
4. A combined paint pourer, brush wipe and brush rest for paint Z cans as recited in claim 2, wherein the said ramp forms a brush rest for the brush bristles and the recess tab recited in claim 1 supports and locates the brush handle. o:
5. A combined paint pourer, brush wipe and brush rest for paint c cans as recited in claim 2, wherein the ramp acts as a dam when pouring liquid from the paint can, and the rounded opening where it finishes at the spout, meters the liquid to the spout so that the spouts pouring rate is not exceeded.
