Abstract

A non-toxic barrier device for protection against garden molluscs. The barrier has interlinking sections to enclose any area of ground and may also be attached to existing raised bed systems. Each section comprises an upright wall having a curved or angled top section. Each section has holes 10 which are covered by knock out blanks which can be used to secure deterrent lines to cover the enclosed inner barrier area from pets and birds. The holes can also be used to secure the device to raised bed systems. The outer wall has a band of molluscs repellent or a coating of a repellent e.g. copper, zinc, garlic, silicone applied after the device has been assembled.

Description

The invention relates to improvements to a non toxic barrier device comprising of an uptight wall with a curve or angled top area facing outwardly. From the upright wall the bamer sections are interlinking and have a band or coating of a non toxic mollusc repellent. The baffler device Is dual purpose and will enclose any area on the ground and also can be attached to any raised bed systems. Each section has holes which are covered by knock out blanks which can be used to secure deterrent lines over the inner protected area from pets and birds. The barrier device can be made from any materials such as metal or a combination of metal and wood or plastics or the like the preferred plastic would be propylene. The barrier device is to protect small or large garden areas and also raised beds. Larger barrier section will protect commercial nursery beds and allotment areas. The barrier system has interlinking sections which can be easily assembled without connecting clips or similar attachments with the knock out blanks removed the holes can be used to secure the sections to any top area of raised beds.
Each section will be coated with a band of non toxic molluscs repellent this repellent will be copper particles which are graded to a size and shape to give the maximum repellent efficiency.
Alternatively the coating may consist of thin zinc bands or zinc particles or combinations of zinc and copper. A repellent coating alternatively will consist of garlic particles or garlic powder impregnated onto a high melting point medium such as silicone garlic oil may also be used the silicone or similar base will remain stable in high ambient temperatures with large barrier areas. A repellent coating may be applied after the device is assembled in situ via spraying equipment or pressunsed containers.
The device will now be further described by way of example with reference to the drawings.
Figure 1 Is a sectional view of a straight section of the barrier device. 26 overlaps the inner intermediate section by 25. By a small amount this intermediate section allows each following outer section 26 to interconnect and also keeps the device in alignment as the barrier extends 10 is the knock out hole which is integral with each section. A repellent band is applied to the outer section of the curved area of the device.
Figure 2 Shows the corner section 15 of the device with the intermediate section 25 fitting just under the corner section 15 knock out holes 10 may be used with 11 copper rings. To pass through these holes with the bottom legs bent out against the outside wall of the barrier. The inner ring 11 to attach deterrent lines if required or alternatively to secure the device to any raised bed systems.
