Covers.-A waterproof cloth or paper top 10, Figs. 1 & 2, of an emergency umbrella, is provided with strip wood ribs 11 secured thereto by tape strips 13, 14, and is attached to a handle 15 by location between discs 16, 17. The disc 16 is either located by a pin 18 passing through the handle or is rigidly attached thereto. The lower disc 17 is held in position by a spring latch 20 abutting either against the disc or against an interposed member 19 which may be integral with the disc. The top may be folded along lines 21 when removed from the handle, which may be of telescopic construction. The ribs may be secured at their inner ends by tape strips to a small apertured disc, or the ribs may be of wire pivoted to a ring which has a concentric cup in which the handle is seated. In an alternative form, Fig. 7, no handle is used, the ribs 11 crossing each other and being secured to the top by passing through slits 13 therein. This form of umbrella is grasped at the intersection of the ribs and held above the head of the user, and the ribs may be made to fold like a carpenter's rule so as to facilitate packing.
