Abstract

244,751. Rosenberg, E. Dec. 19, 1924, [Convention date]. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Act]. Bearing currents, auxiliary means for preventing; coils and conductors; dampers and short. circuited screens. - Short-circuited rings of highly conducting non-magnetic material are used to neutralize the currents in the end connectors of the conductors in dynamo machines and so prevent eddy currents in the adjoining solid iron parts of the machines, reduce bearing currents and give a definite direction to the forces acting on the end-connectors at moments of short-circuits. The rings may also serve as supports for the end connectors. In the form shown in Fig. 3, the copper rings R are carried by the bolts S which support the strengthening clamps P and the non-conducting supports Z of the winding end connectors W. They may, alternatively, replace the clamps and be of angular or other cross-section. Fig. 6 shows a composite ring consisting of two concentric elements R<2> joined by blocks V drilled for the supporting bolts, the whole being split diametrally and joined by screwed-down parts L. In the construction shown in Fig. 7, the ring R<3> is tied by bands D directly to the end connectors W<3> of the windings. The invention is applicable to stationary or rotating armatures of alternating-current machines and for preventing eddy currents in the shafts and bearings of continuous-current machines.
