Abstract
The socket kit includes various shapes and sizes of sockets 1 and extensions 3 which are split down their length to allow an object such as a fitting or a nut on a pipe or a rod to be encircled, clamped and moved. The split may be joined by a hinge 5 on one side and a quick release clamp 4 on the adjacent side. A series of holes 8 may be used to engage with a hand tool and allow leverage to be applied. The hand tool may include a ratchet unit for both clockwise and anti-clockwise movement. Alternatively the socket may include loose split inserts in two halves located inside a larger socket head.
Description
DISCRIPTION
The present invention relates to a split socket kit in particular but not exclusively to open and encircle pipework and release or tighten the attached fittings Devices are known to achieve the above purpose but are very difficult and unreliable to use in enclosed spaces.
The present invention seeks to overcome these problems by providing a simple to use kit which is far more reliable, safe and quicker.
According to the present invention there is provided a selection of socket heads of various sizes and types which can be opened apart by releasing the quick release clamps then moving both sides apart on the hinges the socket is then in a position to encircle the pipework before being reclamped tight which leaves it in a position to move the nut or fitting attached to the pipe.
Preferable the kit is made of metal but other rigid materials would be acceptable.
The preferred embodiment of the present invention is described by the accompanying drawings.

Shows a smaller fitting size head I, clamped shut by quick release clamp 4. also shown is drive tool holes around the entire circumference, so when engaged with drive tool 13. a force can be exerted to move the socket round left or right.
The bottom half of body 3. has a drive fit recess female6. so when engaged by drive fit male 7. a similar force can be exerted on drive unit.
The length of body 3. may vary in length for special purposes.

When drive unit I I. is clamped round the pipe and drive fit male 7.is engaged with drive fit famale6. the ratchet type well known in the trade allows'ither clockwise or anticlockwise pressure to be exerted.

Although the examples described up to now is for use with pipes and fittings various other uses would be possible. Example only nuts and fittings on rods or bars.
All parts of the kit would be split length ways, held by hinges 5. and clamps 4.
Other means opening and clamping fast could easily be found.
Also all parts of the kit would be interchangeable.
Due to the versatility of the invention it provides a much quicker, safer and more accurate device for the purpose proposed.
Modifications and variations of the present invention will become apparent to those skilled in the art, it is intended that all modifications will be included in the scope of the present invention.
Further the invention not only covers embodiments as described but also combinations of features and embodiments.

Claims (13)
1. A socket kit comprising a selection of one or more socket heads, bodies and attachments of various shapes and sizes, being able to be slit and encircle an object for example (pipe or rod) then re-clamped to allow a fitting or nut for example to be moved when leverage is applied.
2. A socket kit according to claim I where the various parts are split lengthways and hinged to one another to allow for opening.
3. A socket kit according to claim 2 where the various parts have a clamping system to secure them shut when in the desired position.
4. A socket kit according to any preceding claim where the various parts are encircled by a series of holes to allow a hand tool to move the parts either clockwise or anti-clockwise when leverage is applied.
5. A socket kit according to any preceding claim where the various parts have a female recess to accept an extension or drive unit with male end which allows movement when leverage is applied
6. A socket kit according to any preceding claim where there is a selection of extension bodies.
7. A socket set according to any preceding claim where there is a extension body where the body parts can be telescoped to alter the length, the said bodies with interlocking edges.
8. A socket kit according to any preceding claim where there is a ratchet drive unit with a male end section to allow both clockwise and anti-clockwise movement when engaged with a female recess and leverage is applied.
9. A socket kit according to any preceding claim where there is a drive unit with a male end section to fit the female recess on the sockets also their being a set of holes round the circumference of the drive unit to allow movement by hand tool, both clockwise or anti-clockwise when leverage is applied.
10. A socket set according to any preceding claim where there is a hand tool with swivel joint and telescope handle that fits into the holes that encircle the various parts allowing leverage to be applied.
11. A socket kit according to any previous claim where there is a selection of loose split inserts in two halves that can be located inside a larger socket head to alter either the size or shape of socket to that needed, the said inserts with interlocking edges.
12. A socket kit according to any previous claim where there is one or more special designs or lengths where the socket head is sufficient without extensions.
13. A socket kit substantially described herein, with reference to and illustrated in the r* accompanying figures.
