Abstract

244,621. Fothergill, J. March 19, 1925. Lift cages and doors, locking and unlocking and operating.-Lock operating mechanism for lift doors of the kind in which the lock is operated by an arm moved by the cage is provided with means whereby the lift controlling circuit is opened and the lift stopped if the cage commences to move away from the doorway when the arm operating the locking mechanism fails to lock the door. The door bolt is held in the locked position by a spring pressed rod b which engages the bolt retaining lever and in turn is locked by a projection d on a spindle q, as described in Specification 242,144. The spindle q has a projection e carrying one contact of a switch a and also has an arm j carrying one contact of a switch f the other contact of which is carried by a pivoted extension c on the arm j, the extension being pressed outwards by a spring and adapted to be operated by a cam m on the cage. Two such switches are provided at each floor and are arranged in parallel and in the electrical control circuit of the lift. If the lift is started and the arm i fails to return the projection d to the locking position, then as the cage moves away from the doorway the cam m will release the extension c so that the switch f will be opened and the lift stopped. The cam may be attached to a solenoid in the electrical circuit so that the cage can move past any floor without operating the locking mechanism.
