Abstract

A paint roller assembly 10 comprising a roller frame 12 has an elongated section 14 on which a roller sleeve 16 can be releasably attached. A release strip 20 having a first end 26 fixed to a first end 22 of the elongated section 14, and a second free end 28 extending beyond a second end of the elongated section 14, is provided. The release strip 20 being positioned radially between the roller sleeve 16 and the elongated section 14 such that the second free end 28 of the release strip 20 can be pulled so as to remove the roller sleeve 16 from the elongated section 14 of the roller frame 12. Pulling the release strip 20 allows the roller sleeve 16 to be removed from the roller frame 12 without the user coming into contact with paint carried on the sleeve 16.

Description

A Paint Roller Assembly The present invention relates to a paint roller
assembly.
Known paint roller assemblies cornpnse a roller frame having a handle for a user to hold, and an elongated section to receive a roller sleeve. The roller assembly is arranged such that the elongated section, and therefore the roller sleeve can rotate so as to apply paint to surfaces such as walls or ceilings.
A problem with known paint roller assemblies is that the user must handle the roller sleeve and therefore come into contact with wet paint when removing the roller sleeve to clean it or throw it away.
An object of the present invention is to provide a roller assembly in which the user does not have to come into contact with wet paint to remove the roller sleeve.
Thus, according to the present invention there is provided a paint roller assembly comprising a roller frame having an elongated section on which a roller sleeve can be relcasably attached, and a release strip positioned radially between the roller sleeve and the elongated section such that the release strip can be pulled so as to remove the roller sleeve from the elongated section of the roller frame.
The provision of the release strip enables a user to remove the roller sleeve from the roller frame without having to touch the roller sleeve, and therefore there is no contact with wet paint by the user.
The invention will now be described by way of example only, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: Figure 1 is a side view of a paint roller assembly according to the present invention, Figure 2 is a front view of a paint roller assembly according to the present invention, Figure 3 is a simplified front view of the paint roller assembly of Figure 1 with the roller sleeve fully attached, Figure 4 is a simplified front view of the paint roller assembly of Figure 1 with the roller sleeve partially detached, and Figure 5 is a simplified front view of the paint roller assembly of Figure 1 with the roller sleeve fully detached.
With reference to Figures 1 and 2, there is shown a paint roller assembly 10 which is known in the art except for the addition of a roller release strip 20 as described below.
The paint roUer assembly 10 comprises a roller frame 12 having an elongated cylindrical section 14 upon which a roller sleeve 16 can be attached, and a handle 18.
The elongated section 14 has a first end 22, and a second end 24.
With reference to Figure 3, the roller release strip 20 is in the form of a thin plastic strip, and has a first end 26 and a second end 28, the first end 26 being fixed to a circumferential outside surface 23 of the first end 22 of the elongated section,.
Alternatively the first end 22 can be fixed to axial end 25 of the elongated section.
The roller release strip 20 is fixed using a suitable adhesive, or other suitable fixing means.
The roller release strip is shown thicker than it actually is so as to enable its function to be described clearly. In practice, the strip is sufficiently thin so that is can be easily positioned radially between the roller sleeve and the elongated section, but not so thin that it will break when pulling it to remove the roller sleeve.
The roller release strip 20 is arranged such that it is positioned radially between the elongated section 14 and the roller sleeve 16 and extends from the first end 22 along the elongated section with the second end 28 of the roller release strip 20 extending sufficiently beyond the second end 24 of the elongated section such that a user can grasp it, but not so far beyond such that it interferes with the normal paint rolling process.
The release sleeve is removed from the elongated section of the roller as follows with reference to Figures 3 to 5: A user grasps the second end 28 of the roller release strip 20 (Figure 3) and manipulates it such that it is pulled in the direction of arrow 1' as shown in Figure 4.
Since the first end 26 of the roller release strip 20 is fixed to the first end 22 of the elongated section 20, the action of pulling the release strip 20 causes the release strip to act against the roller sleeve 16 such that it is slidably removed from the elongated section 20. The user continues to pull the release strip 20 until the roller sleeve (not shown in Figure 5) is fully removed from the elongated section as shown in Figure 5.
Thus the release strip 20 enables the user to remove the roller sleeve without having to contact it.

Claims (6)

  1. Claims 1. A paint roller assembly comprising a roller frame having an
elongated section on which a roller sleeve can be releasably attached, and a release strip positioned radially between the roller sleeve and the elongated section such that the release strip can be pulled so as to remove the roller sleeve from the elongated section of the roller frame.
  2. 2. A paint roller assembly according to claim I in which the release strip has a first end fixed to a first end of the elongated section, and a second free end extending beyond a second end of the elongated section, the release strip being positioned radially between the roller sleeve and the elongated section such that the second free end of the release strip can be pulled so as to remove the roller sleeve from the elongated section of the roller frame.
  3. 3. A paint roller assembly according to claim 1 or 2 in which the roller release strip is a plastic strip.
  4. 4. A paint roller assembly according to any preceding claim in which the roller release strip is attached to a circumferential surface of the elongated section.
