Abstract

Door security chain 11 primarily for UPVC doors. A support 4 secured to a wall supports the chain 11 and an alarm 6. The chain has a ring 12 to engage over a door handle and a link 10 attaches to a fixed eye bolt 9 to limit door opening. If the door is forced open then link 10 breaks and allows the chain to pull an alarm activation pin 14. The arrangement does not require holes to be drilled in the door or frame.

Description

Description
This concept is designed primarily for UPVC doors, irs not advised by the UPVC door manufacturers to drill holes for screws or bolts in their doors as this may interfere with the locking mechanism within the door, the door itself is a plastic shell and not very substantial and not suitable for holding securely screws or bolts.
A lot of concern has been expressed by the elderly and those afraid to open their door that they cannot fit a security chain to their door or their door facings.
With reference now to the drawings -1) Door 2) Door Handle and lock 3) Door facing 4) Support platform for mechanism, secured to wall by screws or bolts.
5) Alarm container 6) Alarm 7) Alarm securing bracket to keep alarm in fixed position 8) Hinge, to allow alarm to follow the angle of the open door 9) Fixed eye-bolt 10) Single turn key ring weakest link 11) Security chain 12) Double turn key ring, strongest link, slips onto door handle ( 2 13) Pull ring to activate alarm 14) Alarm activation pin 15) Screws or bolts securing platform to wall Claim

Claims (1)

  1. This concept is primarily designed for UPVC doors, although can be
fitted to any door where the occupant has concern about their safety. Presently door security chains in the main are fitted to wooden doors and are not advised to be fitted to UPVC doors as the screws or bofts can interfere with the locking mechanism, LJPVC doors in the main are quite a flimsy plastic shell and will not support adequately screws or bolts.
