Abstract
244,221. Spiers, A. D. Oct. 15, 1924. Pivoted - sliding windows; sash-cord attachments. - The upper and lower sashes 39, 40 of pivoted-sliding windows have rabbeted outer edges 35 for the reception of the sash cords and the parts of the beading forming the slideways are adapted to be moved to permit the sashes to be swung into horizontal position, where the lower ends of the sashes are prevented from lifting by means of catch devices. Each sash is swung after lowering and parts of the parting bead 45 and inner bead 46 are hinged at 20, 21, the bead 45 being adapted to be folded into a recess in the pulley stile. Each sash cord is attached to its sash by a suspender 28, Figs. 9 and 10, of which a hole 29 in the lower end engages a stud 30 on a bracket on the sash. The catch device for the lower sash consists of a spring 13, Fig. 2, arranged in a lower portion 11 of the parting bead 45 and adapted to engage a projection 26, Fig. 10, on the bracket of the lower sash. The catch device for the upper sash consists of a semicircular socket in a bracket 9 fixed in the pulley stile, the socket being engaged by a projection 24, Fig. 9, on the bracket of the upper sash. The upper sash is provided with a bracket 27, Fig. 9, where it contacts with the lower part of the parting bead. The cord of the lower sash is clasped in a hook part of a member 17, Fig. 1, fixed on the inner bead 46, and a movable part 19 serves as a fastener for the hinged bead 8. A stay 36 supports the lower sash in horizontal position. The pulley stiles of the lower sash are sunk beyond the level of the other stiles in order that the cords of the lower sash may remain vertical when that sash is swung to horizontal position.
