Abstract

244,185. Holman, J. L., and Holman, A. T. Sept. 15, 1924. Percussive tools.-In a rock-drill or like machine the drill &c. cylinder forms a double-acting plunger within an outer sleeve to which fluid-pressure may be admitted to feed and hold the drill to its work. The hammer 11 reciprocates in a cylinder 10 provided with annular ribs 23 which, together with an annular rib 21 within a sleeve 20, form spaces 30, 31 to which fluidpressure may be admitted by a valve 35, the valve also containing exhaust-ports. The sleeve 20 may be split horizontally and secured by bolts or may be in one piece, the rib 21 then being split and secured axially in the sleeve by two liners. In a modification, the rib 23 is formed integral with the cylinder-end 14 to facilitate insertion in the sleeve. Feet 37 on the sleeve provide for attachment to a support or carriage. Specifications 15757/05 and 228,436 are referred to.
