Abstract

243,964. Paffen, H. April 6, 1925. Steering-gear.-The parts of the ball-joints a in the steering linkage are prevented from separating, when the ball or its stem breaks, by a link g, Fig. 4, pivoted on a neck of the steering arm b and also pivoted on a fork-member h formed on the ball-socket d. In the construction shown in Figs. 5 and 8 the fork h is secured to the socket d by clamps k one of which slips over a nut f of the ball-joint and prevents rotation of the nut. One end of the link g is pivoted on the fork hand the other has a sliding connection at q with a ring m free to rotate on a sleeve n which is mounted on the steering-arm b and serves to prevent a nut c from rotating.
