Abstract
An insulated jacket can be fitted around the sides and top of a hot or cold cabinet 1, and therefore minimise heat gain or heat loss from the cabinet. The jacket includes front and side portions 2 and a top cover 3. The top cover retains the insulated front and side portions around the cabinet. The front and side portions may be attached by hinges and the top cover may slide into place to lock the jacket in position. The jacket finds particular use for cooled cabinets and heated/cooled vending machines, such that power can be isolated to affect energy savings, whilst maintaining a stable temperature within the cabinet.
Description

COOL CABINET OR VENDING MACHINE COVER

This invention relates to an insulated cover for cool cabinets or vending machines preventing either heat gain or heat loss from the cabinet or machine when the power to the cabinet or machine is switched off.

Free-standing cool cabinets or vending machines are usually left switched on overnight to keep the contents cool. This is not only a waste of the energy required to keep the contents cool but the waste heat it produces can lead to excessive overheating of the area in which the cabinets are situated requiring the use of air conditioning to cool the room down again wasting more energy. Simply switching the cabinet off and on again can result in a cycling off the internal temperature which can be detrimental to the goods or contents stored in the cabinet.

An object of this invention is to provide an easy to fit temporary insulating jacket for a cool cabinet or vending machine to reduce either heat gain or heat loss from or to the surrounding area. This will allow power to the machine to be disconnected overnight or at time when access to the contents of the cool cabinet or vending machine is not required. When switched off, the change in temperature of the cabinet and its contents are minimjsed.

Accordingly this invention provides an insulating jacket fitting around the front and two sides of a cool cabinet or vending machine locked in place by a similar insulated board covering the top of the cabinet or machine. When in place, the heat gain or loss from the cabinet will be reduced and the power to the cabinet or machine may be switched off.

The jacket should be made of a suitable insulating material and be manufactured with two hinges to fit around the front and two sides of the cabinet. A separate insulated board slides into place to lock the jacket in position and to provide similar insulation properties for the top of the cabinet.

A preferred embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawing in which: FIGURE 1 shows an exploded isometric view of a cool cabinet 1. The insulated jacket 2 and the top cover 3.

FIGURE 2 shows the insulated jacket 2, in place around the cabinet 1 and the insulated top cover 3 being slid into place.

With the insulated jacket in place, the power to the cool cabinet or vending machine can be safely isolated and the temperature within the cabinet will remain relatively stable until the power is restored. While the cover is in place and the power turned off, considerable energy savings can be made with no significant change in the internal cabinet temperature.
