Abstract

A portable work base comprises a downward facing frontal lip (1, fig 3), so that when placed on and over the edge of a flat surface, it will protect that surface and provide a stable work area. High grip, non-damaging point contacts 2 may be provided between the work base and the surface over which it is placed. The work base may include a 'T'-slotted surface 3 to allow work pieces, jigs tools etc. to be securely attached. The work base may include switched, circuit breaker protected electrical outlets 4, an adjustable work lamp 5, storage compartments (6, 7, fig 3) and a hand slot 8. The work base may be used in craft activities such as model making/engineering.

Description

<p>Portable Work Base</p>

<p>Background</p>

<p>People involved in craft activities, model making/engineering etc. are often obliged to carry out these activities on a table or work surface which may, as a result, become damaged and which offers no means to securely hold a work piece, jig, tool etc.</p>

<p>Statement of invention</p>

<p>This invention proposes a hand portable, flat bottomed work base with downward facing frontal lip which, when placed on and over the edge of a flat surface, will protect that surface and provide a stable work area.</p>

<p>Advantages This invention would allow craft, model making/engineering etc. activities to be carried Out Ofl a flat surface with stability, without damage and whilst securely holding work pieces, jigs, tools etc. The hand portability of the invention would enable it to be quickly put in place/removed.</p>

<p>Preferably the work base would provide switched, circuit breaker protected electricity outlets, an adjustable work lamp, storage facilities and a hand slot.</p>

<p>Detailed description (preferred embodiment)</p>

<p>A base Unit with a downward facing frontal lip I made by injection moulding from a material such as high impact polystyrene and incorporating high grip, non-damaging point contacts 2 set into recesses moulded into the base and lip and made from a material such as polyurethane has a r-slotted surface 3, made by extrusion from a material such as an aluminium alloy, to receive threaded, inverted T' fasteners to allow work pieces, jigs, tools etc. to be securely attached.</p>

<p>Preferably switched, circuit breaker protected electrical outlets 4, an adjustable work lamp S (both fed' from an integral mains connecting-lead), an internal storage compartment 6 and open trays 7 would be incorporated.</p>

<p>Preferably a hand slot 8 would be incorporated in the frontal lip.</p>

<p>Preferably the work base would stand on its rear, angled (less than 900 to centralise the weight distribution) surface 9 for compact, stable storage.</p>

Claims (1)

1. <p>Claims I. A hand portable, flat bottomed work base with downward facing

   frontal lip which, when placed on and over the edge of a flat surface, will protect that surface and provide a stable work area.</p>

   <p>2. A hand portable, flat bottomed work base according to claim I, in which high grip, not-damaging point contacts form the juncture between it and any flat surface/edge it may be placed on.</p>

   <p>3. A hand portable, flat bottomed work base according to claim I, which incorporates a T slotted work surface enabling items to be firmly attached to that surface using inverted T' threaded fasteners.</p>

   <p>4. A hand portable. flat bottomed work base according to claim I, which incorporates switched, circuit breaker protected mains electrical outlets, an adjustable work lamp and an integral mains connecting lead.</p>

   <p>5. A hand portable. flat bottomed work base according to claim I, which incorporates built-in storage capacity.</p>

   <p>6. A hand portable, flat bottomed work base according to claim I, which incorporates a hand slot in the frontal lip.</p>

   <p>7. A hand portable, flat bottomed work base according to claim I, which will stand upright and stable on its rear surface for compact storage.</p>

   <p>Amendments to the claims have been filed as follows: Claims I. A hand portable, flat bottomed work base with downward facing frontal lip, the upper surface of the base being T slotted enabling items to be firmly attached to that surface using inverted T threaded fasteners.</p>

   <p>2. A hand portable, flat bottomed work base according to claim I, which incorporates switched, circuit breaker protected mains electrical outlets, an adjustable work lamp and an integral mains connecting lead.</p>
