Abstract

A lightweight plug-in lighting source is designed to be wall mounted via a conventional connector to an existing wall socket mains electrical supply. It contains a transformer to allow the splitting of the mains power supply via a module to two, three or more low voltage lamps held by lightweight flexible armatures.

Description

Title: Wall socket lamp

Background

This invention relates to a means of providing a lightweight multiple lamp source from a single electrical supply, in this case from a standard wall socket.

The unit is made of two parts a three-pin (live/neutral/earth) socket adaptor (or similar in countries other than the UK) that connects to a module designed to split the supply to a number of lamps -The adaptor works in a similar way to the pendant light fitting also requesting to be searched The internal adaptor splits the current to two, three or more lamps, all emanating from the one source, in the same way that a chandelier type of lamp fitting does The only limit to the amount of lamps that can be connected to the adaptor are defined by what is perceived to be a maximum safe weight exerted on the adaptor The two main parts of the unit are the adaptor and the module units Although drawn here as having a twist and lock mechanism, the join could be a more permanent one where the unit is supplied as one complete piece However, the principal remains of an adaptor with a modular device containing a transformer or wiring that splits the current to a number of different lamps through a three pin (or similar) connector The invention therefore fulfils the need to improve the lighting available from a wall socket source into an attractive alternative that can also be moved from one location to another with ease In either case the lamps are connected to the adaptor/module housing by lightweight flexible armatures terminating in a number of low wattage lamps These are designed to be stiff enough to hold their own weight without bending, but pliable enough so that they can be bent into any variety of positions, thereby controlling the direction and/or intensity of the lighting they produce For instance the wall mounted device could be used in a kitchen to produce removable under wall cupboard lighting without having to be permanently wired in

Claims (1)

  1.
Claims I A lightweight plug in lighting source that is designed to be
wall mounted via a conventional three-pin (or otherwise depending on the particular country) connector to an existing wall socket mains electrical supply 2 A lightweight lamp adaptor according to claim 1 that does not require adaption or modification to the existing electrical supply 3 A lightweight lamp adaptor according to claim 1 whereby the adaptor contains a transformer to allow the splitting of the mains power supply via a module to two or more low voltage lamps 4 A lightweight lamp adaptor according to all the preceding claims that is easily attached and removed and does not require any electrical wiring knowledge.
