Abstract
A lightweight lamp adaptor with a bayonet or screw type fitting connecting to the mains electrical supply by means of an existing pendant light fitting, thereby replacing a conventional lightbulb, that does not require adaption or modification of the existing ceiling rose electrical supply, and contains a transformer to allow the splitting of the mains power supply via a module to two, three or more low voltage lamps.
Description

Title: Pendant light fitting

Background

This invention relates to a means of providing a lightweight multiple lamp source from a single electrical supply, in this case the bayonet connection in a standard pendant light fitting.

There are many chandelier' (ie multi lamp fittings) available but they all have to be wired in from the ceiling rose, or require the installation of a new ceiling rose and supports as well This means a qualified electrician, or at least a competent handy man, has to install such a light fitting This invention is designed to overcome the associated problems of having to install a light from the ceiling and becomes as simple to connect as replacing a bulb Because it is light in weight it places no more extra force on the cord than a large lampshade The adaptor replaces a bulb and uses the bayonet (or screw) connector inside the pendant light fitting to supply power to an adaptor. The adaptor then splits the current to two, three or more lamps, all emanating from the one source, in the same way that a chandelier type of lamp fitting does The only limit to the amount of lamps that can be connected to the adaptor are defined by what is perceived to be a maximum safe weight exerted on the cord and ceiling rose fixing The two main parts of the unit are the adaptor and the module units Although drawn here as having a twist and lock mechanism, the join could be a more permanent one where the unit is supplied as one complete piece However, the principal remains of an adaptor with a modular device containing a transformer or wiring that splits the current to a number of different lamps through one bayonet or Edison screw connection The invention therefore fulfils the need to improve the direct lighting from a pendant light source into an attractive alternative that is not permanently wired into a ceiling rose and that can also be moved from one location to another as simply as changing a light bulb.

An application is also being made for a device with a similar concept that connects to the mains electricity supply by means of a standard wall socket. The unit is made of two parts a three-pin (live/neutral/earth) socket adaptor (or similar in countries other than the UK) that connects to a module designed to split the supply to a number of lamps In either case the lamps are connected to the adaptor/module housing by lightweight flexible armatures terminating in a number of low wattage lamps These are designed to be stiff enough to hold their own weight without bending, but pliable enough so that they can be bent into any variety of positions, thereby controlling the direction and/or intensity of the lighting they produce For instance the wall mounted device could be used in a kitchen to produce removable under wall cupboard lighting without having to be permanently wired in See separate application

Claims (1)
-
Claims 1 A lightweight lamp adaptor with a bayonet fitting connectingto the mains electrical supply by means of an existing pendant light fitting, thereby replacing a conventional lightbulb 2 A lightweight lamp adaptor according to claim 1 connected other than by a bayonet fitting, for example as a screw type Edison fitting.

3 A lightweight lamp adaptor according to claim 1 that does not require adaption or modification of the existing ceiling rose electrical supply 4 A lightweight lamp adaptor according to claim 1 whereby the adaptor contains a transformer to allow the splitting of the mains power supply via a module to two or more low voltage lamps A lightweight lamp adaptor according to all the preceding claims that is easily attached and removed and does not require any electrical wiring knowledge
