Abstract

Disclosed is a pull-cord switch with water drain/drip holes, such that the drip holes allow water to drain away if there is water penetration inside the pull-cord switch electrical fitting due to a water leak from above.

<p>WATER-SAFE PULL-CORD SWITCH</p>
<p>Water penetration hi light fittings can happen when there is a leak from above. This will help drain water away from Electrical Terminals.</p>
<p>To keep water away from Electrical Terminals.</p>
<p>If water gets into the inside of Pull-Cord Switch, holes will allow water to drain away. These should be around the circumference so water drips are furthest away from electrical terminals and pull-cord in the centre (recommended size not less than 2.5mm diameter). If it has a flat or concave cover surface, water will not collect in the middle as with convex covers where electrical terminals are situated. If there is a raised centre (approximately 1cm), water will not cover middle but flow towards outside, this will help keep water away from electrical terminals and pull-cord. A division barrier should be part of moulding (approx 0.5 cm) between electrical contacts to hinder water crossing and reduce the risk of arcing.</p>
<p>Water will not collect in centre or flow down pull-cord but to either side and to drip holes. Thus reducing fire risk, reducing the risk of electrical shock and lessening the risk of arcing between terminals.</p>
<p>With reference to accompanying drawing.</p>
<p>FIGURE 1 Shows Pull-Cord Switch with drip-holes, raised center, division barrier and flat cover.</p>
<p>EXAMPLE</p>
<p>If there is a water leak from above instead of Pull-Cord Switch filling up with water it will drain away.</p>

  1. <p>Water-Safe Pull-Cord Switch</p>
    <p>CLAIMS</p>
    <p>1. Water drip holes around edge or circumference so water drains away.</p>
    <p>2. Raised centre, so that water does not collect in middle where electrical contacts are situated.</p>
    <p>3. Flat or concave cover so water so water does not collect in the middle as with convex covers, (does not have pool effect).</p>
    <p>4. Division barrier between contacts.</p>
