Abstract
A pet flap comprises a door constructed in two elements, an uppermost part hinged at its top and a lower door element. The portal may be circular and rotatable and can be rotated from its locking position or to its entry/exit mode. The door's locking system may comprise two locking mechanisms that are housed within the lower door frame sides and offer three way locking.
Description

1. 2432615

TITLE

Animal Entry/Exit Safety Rotatable Door System

Specification

This invention introduces additional safeguards against animal entrapment it comprises a free swinging door that is hinged at the top; the door is further hinged at its lower centre-point so that in the event of an obstruction occurring under the door, then the centre hinge would fold until the obstruction is cleared.

Locking System for the Door The door's circular design allows it to be rotated 90 into its lockable position; the locks for the door are housed within the sides of the surrounding door frame and are activated manually.

The invention thus provides an animal entry/exit safety system in accordance with the Claims appended hereto.

My invention will now be described by way of example and with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Drawing 1/5 Fig. IA Member 2 is shown as the top hinge of the door and whose sides locate within the top inside opening of frame member 1. Member 4 is the control handle for rotating the circular door beneath it.

Member 6 is the rotatable door in its opening position.

Member 3 is the semi-circular enclosure within which the door can be rotated 90 .

Member 5 is a continuous strip hinge.

Members 7 are the holding magnets within the lower door and frame Fig 2A Member 6, the rotatable door is shown in its lockable position.

Member 9 shows the door-lock handle in its unlocked position.

Member S is the door lock follower.

Drawing 2/5 Fig 3A Figure 3A is a dissembled view of the circular door. Member 10 is the surrounding raised edge of the circular door Fig 4A Figure 4A shows the door in its open position Drawing 3/5 Fig. 5A Figure 5A is an exploded view of the lower right hand section of Member 1 that houses the (egress) door lock.

Member ii shows the door lock in its forward locking position.

Member 12 is the housing void for Member 11 Fig 6A Figure 6A shows (ingress) Member 11 within its unlocked position. 2.

Fig 7A Figure 7A is a diagrammatic view of the internal workings of the locking system.

Drawing 4/5 Fig 8A No. 13 shows a dissembled profile view of the door, Member 2 being the door top hinge pins, the ends of which locate within the top inside edge of the door frame (Member 1) and from which the door pivots Member 4 is the control handle by which the circular door can be rotates 900 either way.

Member 10 is a sectional view of the circular door rim and in which is shown the tail of Member 4 that is embedded within the rim matrix.

Member 5 shows the centre hinge of the circular door Drawing 5/5 Fig. 9A Number 14 indicates the 280 pivotal range of the circular door's hinge.

Fig. 1OA Number 15 shows the door's 180 opening rage. 3.

Claims (2)
-
CLAIMS

I. An animal entry/exit safety system comprising a door and a locking system therefore, the door being hinged at a top end thereof and is further hinged at a lower point thereof
- 2. An animal entry/exit safety system according to Claim I further comprising attachment means for coupling the door to the top of a frame and allowing the door to swing inwards and outwards through a radius of at least 180 degrees.

3 An animal entry/exit safety system according to any proceeding claim, wherein the door has a circular lower element that can be manually rotated between an open position and a locking position.

4 An animal entry/exit safety system according to either one of Claims 2 and 3 wherein the attachment means for the rotatable door is provided by way of a raised rim of the door, which allows a top edge of the circular lower element to be captured (yet rotatable) within a lower part of the door's (higher) second element.

5. An animal entry/exit safety system according to any proceeding claim, when the hinged lower point of the door is in a lateral position then the door is ready for entry or exit and to give way to any obstruction that may occur beneath it.

6. An animal entry/exit safety system according to any one of Claims 3 to 5, wherein circular lower element is placed in its locking position by moving a control handle and by doing so, the hinge thereof is moved into a perpendicular position.

7 An animal entry/exit safety system according to any proceeding claim, whose door locking system comprises two locks that are housed within the sides of a lower door frame and offer three way locking choices.
