Abstract

The invention relates to a load lifting device with a height-adjustable fork carrier 1, on which two fork prongs 3, 4 are laterally displaceably suspended. In order to increase the safety of the load lifting device with relatively little outlay, the fork carrier 1 according to the invention in each case has, at the two lateral ends, a pivoting wing 5, 6, which, in a starting position, is flush with upper and lower guide sections 1a, 1b of the fork carrier 1 and is configured to receive a fork prong 3, 4 by means of lateral displacement of the fork prong 3, 4. The pivoting wing 5, 6 can be folded, together with the fork prong 3, 4, about a pivot axis "S" with a vertical or approximately vertical orientation to the front side of the fork carrier 1, into a right-angled transporting position.

Description

* Load lifting device with fork carrier and foldable fork prongs The
invention relates to a load lifting device with a height-adjustable fork carrier, on which Iwo fork prongs are laterally displaceably suspended.
Load lifting devices of this type are used, for example, on lifting frames of front seat fork lift trucks. When the vehicle is unloaded and travelling straight ahead, the horizontal carrying sections of the fork prongs are a substantial danger to objects and people in the direct surroundings.
The present invention is based on the object of providing a load lifting device of the type mentioned at the outset, in which the safety is increased with a relatively low outlay.
This object is achieved according to the invention in that the fork carrier has a pivoting wing, in each case, at the two lateral ends, which, in a starting position, is flush with the upper and lower guide sections of the fork carrier and is configured to receive a fork prong by means of lateral displacement of the fork prong and which, together with the fork prong, can be folded about a pivot axis with a vertical or approximately vertical orientation to the front side of the fork carrier, into a rightangled transporting position.
The idea fundamental to the invention accordingly consists in providing the fork carrier with lateral pivoting wings, onto which the fork prongs can be pushed and thereafter can be folded away together with the pivoting wings.
The fork prongs with their horizontal carrying sections thus arrive in a parallel position to the fork carrier, the points of the carrying sections being arranged transversely to the travel direction and therefore so as to be safe from accidents.
Standard fork prongs can be used for the load lifting device according to the invention and have an upper and lower fork hook in each case. Prior to the right- folding away of the pivoting wings at right angles from their working positions, in which they are located in the central region of the fork carrier, the fork prongs are displaced laterally on the fork carrier until they rest completely on the pivoting wings. The pivoting wings and therefore the fork prongs are then pivoted forward by about 90 degrees into the transporting position.
If the pivoting axes of the pivoting wings - in a plane parallel to the lateral extension of the fork carrier - are inclined in the same direction to the vertical, the carrying sections, which are horizontally aligned in the operating position, of the two fork prongs are arranged standing slightly obliquely one above the other when being pivoted away into the transporting position and do not mutually hinder one another. Angle deviations of the pivoting axes of the pivoting wings to the vertical of 0.5 to 5 angle degrees, for example, are possible for this.
In an advantageous embodiment of the invention, each pivoting wing is provided with at least one securing device cooperating with the fork prong and preventing a displacement of the fork prong beyond the pivoting wing.
Further advantages and details of the invention will be described in more detail with the aid of the embodiment shown in the schematic figures.
In this case, the figure shows a load lifting device according to the invention in the frontal view A, the plan view B and a side view C. Two fork prongs 3 and 4 are laterally displaceably arranged on a fork carrier 1, which can be moved up and down on a lifting mast 2, for example, of a fork lift truck. The fork prongs 3 and 4 are held in each case by an upper fork hook 3a or 4a and a lower fork hook 3b or 4b. The upper fork hook 3a or 4a rests here on an upper guide section 1 a of the fork carrier 1. The lower fork hooks 3b and 4b of the fork prongs 3 and 4 engage behind a lower guide section 1 b of the fork carrier. By means of lateral displacement of the two fork prongs 3 and 4 on the fork carrier 1, the spacing between them and the lateral position with respect to the fork carrier 1 can be changed.
The fork carrier 1, at its two lateral ends, in each case has a pivoting wing 5 or 6 which, in the starting position, is flush with the guide sections 1 a and 1 b of the fork carrier I and which, in the present example, in each case consists of an upper and a lower wing element. Obviously, a one-part design is also possible. Each pivoting wing 5 or 6 can be pivoted to the front from the starting position about an approximately vertically oriented pivoting axis S in the direction of the front side of the fork carrier 1. The fork prongs 3 and 4, after they have been pushed laterally from their working positions, in each case, onto a pivoting wing 5 or 6, in the starting position of the pivoting wings 5, 6 can thus be folded away into a right-angled transporting position, in which the carrying sections 13, 14 of the fork prongs 3, 4 are arranged parallel to the fork carrier 1 so as to be safe from accidents.
In the working position of the fork prongs 3, 4, end stops, not shown in the figure, (for example screws or the like which can be screwed into the fork carrier 1) prevent the fork prongs 3, 4 being displaced inadvertently onto the pivoting wings 5, 6 and being loaded there. These end stops, prior to displacement of the fork prongs 3, 4 from the working position into the transporting position, have to be released and - conversely after displacement of the fork prongs 3, 4 from the transporting position into the working position, have to be locked again.
In the present embodiment, the pivoting axes S of the pivoting wings 5, 6 are inclined in the same direction, in other words parallel to one another, in relation to the vertical by an angle of 2 degrees, with respect to a plane which is parallel to the lateral extension of the fork carrier 1. The carrying sections 13, 14 of the fork prongs 3, 4 are thus arranged one above the other in the transporting position and do not hinder one another mutually.
Releasable securing pins 7 prevent the fork prongs 3, 4 arranged on the pivoting wings 5, 6 from falling down.
It is obvious that the load lifting device according to the invention is also suitable for embodiments in which the fork prongs 3, 4 are laterally displaceable in a power-operated manner. In this case, the joint eyes, connected to the fork prongs, of the generally present, hydraulic lateral * displacement cylinders must be flush with the two pivot axes S when the fork prongs 3, 4 are pushed outwardly onto the pivoting wings 5, 6, in order to allow unhindered folding in and out of the pivot wings 5, 6. It is also possible to lock the pivoting wings 5, 6 both in the starting position and in the transporting position.
